For My Brother! (Closed)
Who: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne (
smallspot ), Cu Chulainn (
beforetights ), and Luke fon Fabre (
headfons ).
Where: A weapons shop in the 3rd District
When: Around 9-10
Summary: Diarmuid takes his brother to pick out a real sword as a belatedsurprise birthday present. Luke helps out since he knows more about swords than the boys do.
Warnings: None!
[When Diarmuid and Cu Chulainn realized that they weren't sure when their birthdays were because of how different the modern calendar was from the calendar they were used to, they agreed to celebrate them together sometime in late Spring or early Summer. However, when that time came, both boys were so caught up in the events going on in the city that they forgot the promise all together. It wasn't until Diarmuid was working on his Remembrance Festival that he realized they had forgotten and that just wouldn't do!
Of course, Diarmuid being Diarmuid means he is less worried about his own birthday being forgotten and more worried about his brother's being forgotten. His brother is going to be a hero, after all, and is the best brother ever. His birthday can't be forgotten!
After thinking for a while about what he wants to get Cu Chulainn, Diarmuid decides that is it time for his brother to have a real sword of his own. No more practice sword for him! The boy talks first to Freya and then to Luke for advice on what kind of sword would be best for his brother. Luke even agrees to meet Diarmuid and his brother at the shop to help them pick the sword out. That leaves just one thing to do...get Cu Chulainn to the store without ruining the surprise!
Hopefully, getting 'distracted' by seeing Luke in the weapons shop while they are on their way to the candy store will be a good enough plan...]
Have you met Kit yet, brother? She has a chocobo now! Isn't that cool? It's kind of like a horse, but it is a big bird instead. I wonder what is faster...
[Diarmuid turns to grin at his brother.]
What do you think? Maybe we should have your horse race her chocobo and find out!

[Diarmuid turns to grin at his brother.]
What do you think? Maybe we should have your horse race her chocobo and find out!

[He shakes his head at his brother's question.]
Not yet. I've seen Chocobos at the ranch, but I haven't seen Kit or her Chocobo yet.
[His eyes light up as he thinks of the race.]
We should! I bet Blackie will win!
no subject
[Diarmuid tilts his head, thinking things over.]
The Chocobo is really fast! I got to ride on it, so I know! But...I haven't gotten to ride on Blackie yet. Maybe I am being unfair...
[So far his plan seems to be working and for that, Diarmuid is grateful. He really wants this to be a big surprise!]
no subject
Don't worry! I'll let you ride on Blackie soon! We'll just have to wait for her not to be scared of you. But you have to let me ride on a chocobo too!
no subject
[Diarmuid gets excited enough at the idea that he claps his hands.]
I just need to spend more time around Blackie is all. I really need to visit her soon.
no subject
[He claps his hands and bounces alongside his brother.]

[Diarmuid giggles as he sings his little song, and is so caught up in it that, he almost ruins his own plan for getting his brother to the weapons shop by starting to walk right passed the building. However, at the last moment, something catches his eyes--perhaps it is Luke's bright red hair--and causes him to remember.]
Hey brother, look! Luke is in there! Do you want to go and say hi to him?
no subject
Yes, let's go!
no subject
Luke! Luke! We're here!

So, there he is awaiting both Diarmuid and Cu Chulainn. Green eyes trailing over the all-too-familiar items, he folds both arms behind his head. This is certainly a welcome distraction from...other things that he's trying not to think about. While his mood might not be one-hundred percent cheerful, he can certainly do well to pretend for his friend's sake.
Grinning brightly upon catching a glimpse of that initial wave, he turns to give a wave right back.]
Hey, there. What's up, Diarmuid? [Yeah, so...even he knows that he's not the best at keeping secrets. So, he's going to talk the least amount as possible, until Diarmuid's ready to announce it!]
no subject
[Cu Chulainn doesn't even wait for his brother to answer Luke's question before shouting out a greeting.]
Do you wanna come play with us?
no subject
[Diarmuid turns toward the swords on the wall that Luke was facing.]
Are you looking for something specific? Hey, brother...
[He waves his brother over.]
Do you see anything you like? There are a lot of really cool things here. I like this sword here! It's handle is pretty.
no subject
To the question of whether, or not, he wishes to come play with them--] Well, I...wish I could, but I've actually agreed to meet someone in about an hour. Next time, okay?
[He shakes his head at the question of if he's looking for something specific.] Not really. I'm just...here to look.
[Nailed it.
Only not...super well. While he's doing his best to play along and look completely inconspicuous, there's a hint of nervousness to his tone and body language. Letting out a soft sigh, he looks to the sword that Diarmuid points out to his brother.] Oh, yeah...I like that one, too. [Then, he slightly-less-than-casually gestures towards the one he thinks might be best for Cu Chulainn.] Hey, uh- what about...this one?
[It's lightweight, but built for durability. And it's not all that expensive. Really, though...even if it's beyond the price range, Luke honestly doesn't mind helping out.]
