Intro Log - September 2014

Who: Everyone
Where: The Welcome Center
When: 15th September, late afternoon
Summary: The new arrivals, freshly pulled from their worlds or others, awaken in a strange place...
Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. NPC responses may be slow.

It's a shuddering breath, a sensation of being pulled to elsewhere and finding oneself pressed against something on the soft and some place cozy. However, before one can fully stir, there is and odd, warm stirring sensation that lifts you up from wherever you've been dropped, when you begin to drift off once more.

'I'm sorry for this... but we need your help.'

Yet the feeling -and the voice - pass quickly, and when you awaken, you begin to realize your surroundings. It's a small room with what some might recognize as a Far Eastern theme when it comes to decor, from the walls to the sofa (or bed) you find yourself on. Illumination is provided by carefully crafted lamps, and even a candle flickering on a nearby desk. The doors are made from paper and wood, with a thin frame; through them it's easy to hear other people stirring, talking, or coming to.

You are not alone...

On a small table beside you, there rests a note atop a manilla envelope. Unfolding the note will reveal some answers in the form of a letter addressed to all arrivals.

Welcome to Saeng Seong (it's pronounced sang see-oung if the name seems really strange)!

You are among a new group of arrivals to our city, from many far-apart worlds.
We have gathered you here because our city is in a crisis, and we are at our last resorts. The energy of the city is in a slow downward spiral, and is dangerously close to expiring altogether. Though with the help of other new arrivals like yourself, the situation is beginning to seem less dim. If you are wondering how this is, allow me to explain.

One hundred years ago, there was a terrible incident known as the Unleashing; an event that sent our world into what would have been a slow and painful end were it not for the quick response of a few. However in the process, our own energies have been left to maintain what is causing this energy crisis. We do not have enough to push back this plague on our own.

That's where you come in - you and everyone else we've brought to the city. Unlike those of us here, you have the potential to generate the energy the city needs, but you'll need to work together to do it.

Why? Because the energy can only be generated when two people touch each other. Any touch will do, but it must be between two of you who are new to the city. If you don't keep in contact with someone, eventually your energy will begin to drain as well, making you dangerously ill.

A few other things:

The closed-off sections of the city are closed off for a reason; approaching them will cause your energy to drain very rapidly. We're working to open the rest of the city to you as soon as we can, but for now, please remain within the first five districts of the city.

You have been given a key to a one-bedroom apartment in a complex set aside for you and the other new arrivals, near the riverside in the 1st district. You're free to change your living quarters whenever you like, and we encourage you to move in with someone in one of the larger apartments. When you want to change, just come back to this building to exchange your key.

We've also included a cash card with a living stipend; if you're unfamiliar with this system, or the network established for new arrivals, you can talk to Andi in the lobby for help. It's what she's here for. If you need medical assistance, contact Mai, one of our doctors.

Again, welcome, and thank you for all your help. Please come downstairs to the lobby for refreshments. If you have any questions, there will be others downstairs to assist you.

Irene
Arrival Liaison

Inside the manilla envelope , you will find: a ring with a key and apartment number on it, some kind of cash card, a map and informational guide to the city, and a second letter folded neatly on the top--

Honoured Guest,

First of all, I would like to second my colleague's welcome to our city with my own. Many have come to this world whether by choice or by our actions, and for my own involvement I humbly ask your forgiveness for potentially pulling you from your homes and loved ones. However, it is as Irene's letter states. We are in an energy crisis, and only you and your fellow new arrivals can aide us.

One hundred one years have passed since the event known as the Unleashing tore a rift in our world with Saeng Seong at its core. Ever since, we have had no word from the outside... until recently.

During the celebration of the autumnal festival last year, we were visited by spirits who perished in the Unleashing and demons. This was to be expected as in our world, the boundaries betwixt the living world and the spiritual wane towards the final day of the festival. However, the events to follow were not. As winter and the very rare snowfalls began, so too did snowmen come alive as bid by a dark magic. Some mages who align themselves with a faction named Rangar saw fit to seize the opportunity for mayhem, and the city suffered for it. However, in this and the following hackings into our citywide network, we have come to learn that there are still others who live outside the walls. Yet they too cannot sustain the energy levels needed to close this rift once and for all.

New friend, I cannot understate our need nor the truth in Irene's letter to you, but there are some in this city you should not trust. Who you do or do not trust is up to your own judgment (even mine is albeit clouded at times), yet I urge you caution. Every side has their own agenda, and even our different factions may be splintered into different parties like the individuals that make them. Though should you ever find need to seek solace or sanctuary, the temple doors are always open.

Rhea,
High Priestess to the Four
Arrival Liason

Odd... Neither were written in your own language, and yet you find it easily understandable. Soon enough, if you don't make an exit on your own, there's a gentle knocking on the door as someone comes from downstairs to usher you along.

"Welcome to Saeng Seong! I know you must be confused or upset as to what's going on, but we promise to explain ourselves further once you've had a chance to stretch your legs!"

Whether you go downstairs immediately or linger a little longer, eventually you must come on down to leave the small space, and sooner rather than later would probably be better. You'll find yourself in a well-lit lobby, filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs. Along one wall are refreshment tables, loaded with all sorts of cool and relieving food and drink, including some you probably aren't familiar with. It's just as well they're in good supply, as the windows outside show a city well heated from a summer sun.

On the wall opposite are a pair of desks, each with a sign, and one person at her station-

Rhea, General Assistance
Andi, Technological Assistance

The plaques have a shiny semi-new look to them, as do the desks. Both lovely ladies seem eager to assist you, though one more.... self-contained than the one bouncing in their seat with anticipation.

Outside, and through the translucent glass you can see a banner hanging from the tiled roof of the building across the street. The cheerful colors on it match well against a bright blue sky:

WELCOME TO SAENG SEONG
(ENJOY YOUR STAY!)

Sam was looking for someone he recognized too, though he was more passive about it, just waiting in the lobby and watching the entrances through which the new arrivals, well, arrived. So he noticed the boy looking down rather quickly; it wasn't anyone he recognized, but that didn't matter. He waved when the boy was looking his way and approached, stopping at a conversational distance.

"Are you alright, young man?" Worry and compassion were evident in his expression and voice as he looked down at him -- though not by as much as would be expected, considering his own short stature.

Oh? Someone had noticed him it seemed and now he'd caused them worry. Lucas never intended for people to fret over him but well... he supposed it was hard not to given his timid nature. Did he really always look that anxious?

"Oh um... yeah, I'm fine." He thinks. Perhaps that wasn't all that convincing. He shakes his head, deciding to be honest with the man. "Actually... I'm not really sure how I feel. I just want to go home. " Need to go home.

He nodded; he could understand that.

"To be honest, I want to go home too." His lab, his friends and family, the Pokemon... Sam missed them all. He didn't mind helping out the people here, but going back for a visit would be nice. "Do you have any friends here? I can help you find them, if you'd like." Familiar faces definitely helped; he'd been lucky enough to bring one of his friends with him when he arrived, but he wasn't sure how common that was.

Lucas could only shake his head forlornly at that.

"At least... I haven't seen anyone I know yet. It would be nice to have someone to help look for them though."

It would take far too long to describe all of the people he knew from Tazmily of course, so perhaps it would be best to keep to the few who were travelling with him before he was pulled here.

"There was a man with a limp called Duster. He was a thief and kind of scruffy. Um... and a princess with bright pink hair called Kumatora. She wasn't very much like a girl... but she was strong and kind. And... my dog, Boney."

Who gets an added dose of sadness from Lucas, given that he was family. He was going to miss that big brown dog.

He nodded along as he listened. To be honest, he hadn't seen anyone like that, but that didn't really mean anything; they could have arrived with the boy, or he could have just missed them.

"A dog? Dogs are nice -- what color is he?" And the names the boy had given him reminded Sam of something else. "By the way, I'm Professor Oak. What's your name, young man?"

"He's brown and really big!"

Cuddly big. He was really protective too and worked hard to try and help when he could. Talking about him seemed to cheer Lucas up a bit, at least until he remembered that said dog didn't appear to be anywhere around here.

"He's part of the family. At least he was..." He adds. It was important that people didn't think of him as just a dog.

But hang on a minute, he'd just been asked a question. He tries to shake away those sad thoughts as he pays more attention to the man's words.

"Oh! I'm Lucas. It's nice to meet you, Professor." Professor of what exactly though? Lucas had to wonder. He didn't seem like the kind of scientist interested in horrible experiments, like those creating hideous chimeras out of metal and living parts but then again it was hard to tell what the true motives of others was sometimes. The boy seems to think on it a moment before asking.

"Do you know a lot about trees?"

Sorry Professor, it was all in the name.

[personal profile] symbolofstrength 2014-09-22 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He understood the sentiment that the animal was part of the family -- most trainers felt the same way about their partners, and he definitely felt that way about Dragonite.

"Trees...?" He may know a little more about trees than a normal person, simply because his general level of education, but he doesn't specialize in them... what gave him that impression? Finally, it clicked, and he laughed a bit nervously when he realized it. "Oh! Oh, no, that's just my name. I study Pokemon."
timidtwin: (Listening)

[personal profile] timidtwin 2014-09-24 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it was just a name, Lucas should have realised that. Though he couldn't help but be curious - someone who knew a lot about trees probably had a great respect for that sort of thing, right? That would be someone he would be especially keen on getting to know.

As it was, the boy looks a tad embarrassed for making the assumption, though now of course he's wondering about the true nature of his studies.

"Pokey-mon?" He probably said that slightly wrong, oops. "What are they?"

It's a good thing he's used to explaining it by now.

"Pokemon are sort of like animals, but they have all sorts of elements and powers. I actually have one with me, but it's too big to let out in here." Actually, Dragonite could be a great help in finding Lucas' friends, if they're anywhere outside.
timidtwin: (Curious)

[personal profile] timidtwin 2014-09-25 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Big? If it was too big to fit inside a building, it must be a fair size! But Lucas is curious about this creature now.

"We could head outside. If you don't mind, I mean..." He didn't want to inconvenience the Professor or his Pokemon after all. "If they have powers, does that mean they can talk?"

And by talk he doesn't necessarily mean by mouth. Lucas had abilities of his own and discovered that every animal seemed to have its own voice, even if he could only hear it in his mind. Being able to talk to a creature from another world would be really interesting, he thought!

"Some of them can. Psychic-types and Legendaries, mostly, but I know of a Meowth that learned to talk the same way humans do." Dragonite couldn't talk like that, but it was certainly intelligent enough to hold a conversation with anyone who could understand it.

"You want to see it? Sure, I don't mind." They could always come back inside when they were done.
timidtwin: (Journey)

[personal profile] timidtwin 2014-09-27 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That made sense, given his own psychic abilities. The term 'legendaries' seems to get the boy's attention though. Something with that title must be important... and intelligent. Something like the Dark Dragon perhaps, though he hadn't met the creature yet... Honestly he had no idea what to expect if and when he finally met that thing.

In any case, it seemed he was able to meet someone else new today. Lucas gave a nod, starting to head outside.

"Does your Pokemon have a name?" he asks as they walk. He might as well become a little more acquainted with it before it made its appearance.

"Not an individual name, no. The species is known as Dragonite, so that's what I call them."

Once they're outside under the sky, and have put a few feet between them and the door, he pulls a red-and-white plastic ball out of his labcoat pocket. When he taps the button, the ball expands from a walnut/golf ball size to a grapefruit/baseball size, and he tosses it into the air. The ball opens in half, and a mass of light escapes it before the ball closes and returns to his hand. Meanwhile, the light quickly turns solid, forming the shape of a dragon hovering in the air.

[personal profile] timidtwin 2014-09-29 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
At first Lucas is kind of confused as to how this supposedly-large creature can fit inside a small plastic ball. As it grows... okay he's still pretty confused, but maybe it's best not to question things from other worlds too much. He might have asked about it before he was distracted by the appearance of a large orange dragon hovering in the sky ahead of them.

That... did that seriously just come out of a ball??

"Wow, he's big! He can fly too?" The Pokemon looks friendly enough though, and if something like the menacing looking Drago can be friendly, he's sure this was no different. "Um, hi Dragonite!" Hopefully he can understand him!

"Dragonite, this is Lucas. Come say hello." Dragonite nods, going to land in front of Lucas as gently as it can. It holds out one of its arms for a handshake, and makes a friendly crooning sound.
