working is my passion
Who: Pilouette and Yamamoto
Where: District 3 Candy Shop
When: September 18th, Day
Summary: Working and maybe birthday party planning.
Warnings: TBA
Though the allowance that they were given was pretty generous, Yamamoto wasn't the type who liked to lounge around doing nothing all day. Getting a job had seemed to be an ideal way to both get to know more about the city and pass the time. It was a bit surprising how willing people were to hire a complete novice, but Yamamoto was starting to see that the city was a lot emptier than he had originally thought. It was definitely more apparent working at a candy store in a place where he hadn't seen any little kids the whole time he had been here. Maybe he was just imagining things?
"Where do you think all the little kids are at?" Yamamoto leaned idly against the broom he'd been using to tidy up a bit, but seeing as how they were slow it didn't seem like it could hurt to chat a bit.

At least none that she had seen. Even after getting a chance to hear out that mysterious man on the network the month before, she still had trouble making sense of it all. It all sounded so complicated and so much was said all at once that she had a hard time keeping track of everything. It didn't help that she's never been the brightest crayon in the box. She sighed and leaned forward on to the counter.
"I think it's something to do with the...whatever it is that's messing with the power around here. If there were any kids, we'd be getting like, a ton more business, that's for sure," she said with a sigh. "It's kind of a shame it's not busier, you know? Everything in here is like, super good..."

Still, he would much rather be talking about their sweets than something dark, so he grinned in agreement with her statement. "I haven't gotten to try much. What's the best thing in here?" He just needed to know purely for business reasons.
no subject
"I don't know if they're really the best thing in the store, but they're like, my absolute favorite!" she says. "When I first started working here I used to buy a box almost every week!"
no subject
"Haha that's all the endorsement I need. Can I try one?" He was sure they could take it out of his paycheck, but he was still new to this store.
no subject
"I bought one just after I got in today...," She said, with a sheepish little laugh.
no subject
"Ah, thank you very much!" He took a bite, eyes widening slightly in surprise. "Haha I can see why you'd buy these all the time. They're really good!" He finished it off happily. "Have you tried a lot of sweets in this store?"
no subject
After all, if Pilouette could live on sweets alone, she would. Unfortunately, her stomach is a cavernous pit that sweets can't fill by themselves. Her smile faded just a little.
"I usually try to share the stuff I get here with people, too. I mean, it's all too good for no one to eat it..."

He took up the broom again, leaning against it, hands propping up his chin as he rested it on top. "It does seem like a lot of it would go to waste... Maybe we should start giving out free samples?" Everyone loved free things, and it might drum up more business.
no subject
Her expression fell a little when at the mention of giving out free samples. Though she did her best not to show it, her unease was probably a little obvious. "Well, free samples before but...being on sample duty isn't like, the greatest thing."
no subject
Noticing the look of discomfort on her face, Yamamoto glanced back at her curiously. "Why not?" It didn't seem that bad, unless customers would regularly come up and knock trays of candy out of his hands, but he was pretty sure his reflexes would keep that from happening.
no subject
She opens a door leading to a storage room behind the counter and motions for him to come take a look. "Come on."
no subject
"Haha are the trays really heavy? Or do the chocolates melt too fast?" That had to be the worst of it, right?
no subject
"I've had to wear it a few times since they started using it and it's like, totally the worst. It gets all sweaty and gross and stuff," she said, with a frown. "I mean, maybe it'll be more comfortable when it's a little cooler, but still. At least no one can tell who's in there, though, I guess..."
Even if one person figured out she was in it, but that was just because she couldn't keep her mouth shut.
no subject
"It can't be too bad." Says the boy who wore a vegetable costume to help a friend to overcome his anxiety in pitching. "It's kind of cute and you don't have to keep it on all day right?"
no subject
"I guess you have a point, but...Well, if you're okay with it, maybe you can volunteer to be Violet Honeybunny the next time we give out samples," she says. "Still, it's like, nice to have someone else working here! I mean, I'm not complaining about the job or anything, but it's so quiet sometimes that it can get a little boring, you know?" She wonders if the fact that they hired on someone else means that business has picked up a little more than she realized.
no subject
He grinned, pleased that she's glad he's here. "Thanks for being so welcoming! I'll do my best to keep it from being boring." He headed back to the front of the store, taking a position behind the counter. "How long have you been here?" Both at the store and in the city.
no subject
"I'm actually kind of surprised that I've had this job for so long since it's like, my first one and all." Really, she had been surprised they had hired her at all, though she was pretty excited that they did.
no subject
"You must be a good worker to keep a job for so long. I'm sure you're really friendly with customers." He said with an encouraging smile. Being able to handle customers was the most important part of this kind of business.
no subject
She smiles a bit sheepishly at his praise. She can't say she isn't pleased, but she always gets a little embarrassed at compliments from people she doesn't know well. "Oh uh...no, I'm sure that it just means this job isn't that hard, you know? It actually took me a little while to get better at talking to customers...!"
no subject
He perked back up when the conversation turned back to her, and he laughed, nudging her teasingly with his shoulder. "You don't have to be so modest! You're talking to me just fine. I'm grateful you're here to show me the ropes."
no subject
"But as far as the power situation goes...There are still a few districts that are closed, so they must still need a lot more power. Someone explained some of it last month or so, but so much was said all at once that I couldn't keep track of it all," she said, frowning. She lowered her voice a little; from what little she was able to get, it didn't sound like the people in charge of the city wanted them to know.
"There's like a...a whatchamacallit. Oh! A...miasma or whatever, that's like, causing all of it. I was gonna write a bunch of stuff down, but the stuff on the network about it was like, deleted before I could get it all. That's like, totally weird, right?"
no subject
He listened intently as she started talking about the miasma, leaning forward a bit, frowning at that. "That's really weird." And disconcerting. The people who had brought him here had seemed so forthcoming when he'd first arrived, with that letter and all. But now... "There are different factions fighting it out though right? Maybe they're fighting about how much to tell us." Which seemed silly to Yamamoto. If you wanted someone to help you, shouldn't you at least explain the situation properly?
no subject
She had to admit, it was a little suspicious. After all, they did kind of just pluck a bunch of people out of their own worlds and homes with no regard about whether they would have wanted to come or not. She sighed quietly and, out of habit, reached up and lightly tugs on her ponytail.
"I bet everyone who ended up here that first day would have wanted to know all this stuff, too. I think only a few of us from the first group are still here..."
