INTRO LOG - OCTOBER 2013

Who: Everyone
Where: The Welcome Plaza
When: 18th October, afternoon
Summary: The new arrivals, freshly pulled from their worlds or others, awaken in a strange plaza...
Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. SOME NPC RESPONSES WILL BE SLOW.

The lanterns flicker and the shadows rise...

Perhaps you felt a rumble beneath your feet, a sensation of what you were standing upon giving way underneath you as something pulled you in and away from what it was you were doing. Or, perhaps it was simply a gentle tap on your shoulder before you had the same tugging sensation from behind your navel. No matter which it was; there is one other constant:

lp...
A quiet rustle of the wind, wherever it is coming from as it hits your face.

help... u...

The earth grumbling beneath you resounds with something unintelligible. Of course; it's the earth. Dirt can't speak, after all. Yet it won't stop, nor does the wind. All you wanted to do was sleep...

Yet suddenly it stops, and as you begin to stir, you begin to feel the crisp wind still seems to be picking up, yet as it settles, it's almost as if it whispers something to your ear.

'elp... u... sh....

Before you can make sense of it, it is gone; and when you awaken, you begin to realize your surroundings. It looks like...a plaza of some sort? As they look around them, the ground beneath them is an intricate mosaic - a water fountain at the center of the plaza in this foreign world. There are many buildings around its perimeter, making this location seem like a central hub of whatever town this was. Some may even recognize the peculiar design of the buildings and sloped tiled rooftops as a Far Eastern theme. Were they somewhere along the Pacific? Who knows! But what is quite apparent is this: Along with the many buildings surrounding the plaza, the first thing that is noticeable is the amount of people sitting or standing around you in a similar daze.

You are not alone...

One building seems to stand out among all the others; one that seems large enough to house all of the completely lost and confused masses gathered here to the welcome plaza. A sign outside the door reads:
WELCOME CENTER
Newcomers: Please come inside for refreshments and your welcome packets!

Odd... This wasn't written in your own language, and yet you find it easily understandable. Soon enough, if you don't enter on your own, someone comes from inside the double doors to usher you and everyone else inside.

"Welcome to Saeng Seong! I know you must be confused as to where you are and what's going on, but we promise to explain this to you once we're inside and away from this windstorm!"

Whether you go inside immediately or linger outside a little longer, eventually you must come in from the slight autumn chill, and sooner rather than later would probably be better. ...What was that shadow from the corner of your vision?

You'll find yourself in a well-lit lobby, filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs. Along one wall are refreshment tables, loaded with all sorts of food and drink, including some you probably aren't familiar with. On the wall opposite are a pair of desks, each with a sign and a person seated behind them -

Irene, General Assistance
Devin, Technological Assistance
Mai, Medical Assistance

Unlike a few waves before, the only people in charge seem to be the people behind the desks. They look a bit busy.

However, before you can go over and give them a piece of your mind and ask questions, the same person who ushered you inside hands you a manilla envelope that contains your welcome packet, urging you to read this before asking the two figures questions that the packet likely answers.

Inside it, you will find: a ring with a key and apartment number on it, some kind of cash card, a map and informational guide to the city, and a letter folded neatly on the top -

Welcome to Saeng Seong!

You are among a new group of arrivals to our city, from many far-apart worlds.
We have gathered you here because our city is in a crisis, and we are at our last resorts. The energy of the city is in a slow downward spiral, and is dangerously close to expiring altogether.

That's where you come in - you and everyone else we've brought to the city. Unlike those of us here, you have the potential to generate the energy the city needs, but you'll need to work together to do it.

Why? Because the energy can only be generated when two people touch each other. Any touch will do, but it must be between two of you who are new to the city. If you don't keep in contact with someone, eventually your energy will begin to drain as well, making you dangerously ill.

A few other things:

The closed-off sections of the city are closed off for a reason; approaching them will cause your energy to drain very rapidly. We're working to open the rest of the city to you as soon as we can, but for now, please remain within the four districts in the south and west parts of the city

You have been given a key to a one-bedroom apartment in a complex set aside for you and the other new arrivals, near the riverside in the 1st district. You're free to change your living quarters whenever you like, and we encourage you to move in with someone in one of the larger apartments. When you want to change, just come back to this building to exchange your key.

We've also included a cash card with a living stipend; if you're unfamiliar with this system, or the network established for new arrivals, you can talk to Devin in the lobby for help. It's what he's here for. If you need medical assistance, contact Mai, one of our newest and brightest doctors.

Again, welcome, and thank you for all your help.

Irene
Arrival Liaison

Back behind you, others still linger, and through the translucent glass you can see a banner hanging from the tiled roof of the building across the street in the blistering summer day:

WELCOME TO SAENG SEONG

She hadn't intended to hurt him, of course, and there's something a little sheepish in her expression as she realises how over-enthusiastic she'd been. Accidentally, of course, but no reason to hurt him.

But in hugging him, and having him hug her, she can feel her nerves settle a little. Yu always knows what to do in situations like this, always knows how to handle things and for that, she feels a little bit safer.

"All right. What do we need to do?" She doesn't mean to get into business mode so quickly but she knows the longer they're here, the more chance there is of that Malevolent Entity causing more trouble.

He knew the first thing to do and that was to keep his friend calm and collected. As much as he wanted to get to business, they need to figure out more about the city. Which meant digging a little deeper of the surface...and it wasn't the paranoia talking either. He had some decency to shoo those thoughts away for the moment.

"First we need to catch up. I'm getting the feeling that something happened between the time I got here and when you did."

Sure he had a feeling that time kind of froze and he did share that with the cute little pink haired girl, but Rise suddenly getting to business when there was really nothing else going on back home? That kind of piqued him.

"What do you mean?" Rise frowns a little at that, brow furrowing. "I just left you, Senpai. Remember, we just said goodbye to Labrys and the others and then you and Yosuke-senpai made that announcement?"

She's starting to wonder, now, if this is actually the real Yu, if this isn't just some trick to mess with her. Why else wouldn't he remember such a recent conversation, such an important conversation?

She's not the only one. Yu couldn't even remember that name or making some kind of announcement and from what she was saying, it sounds important and something he would never forget.

"I don't know that name or anything else. The last time we saw each other was when I was leaving Inaba and that was four months ago."

...on second thought, screw not saying anything. She needs to know and he isn't willing to hide that from her. Yu knows better.

"What?" Now she's only getting more confused. Where did four months come from? "It's not even been two months, never mind four, and you came back for Golden Week...you really don't remember?"

She knows he isn't lying to her - for one, having met Labrys there's no way he'd have forgotten her. For another, she trusts him unequivocally so if he says it's been four months for him then she wants to believe it. She just doesn't understand how, and that's the part that's tripping her up.

"I don't get it either," he admits quietly. "It was March back home and when I came here, it was June."

But he has to think carefully. If he can't remember coming back for Golden Week or this Labrys person, is it possible that Rise is from the future? There's no way that she could make all this up; it's not in her to lie about something this big. Either way, this whole timey wimey stuff is confusing him.

"We should see if anyone else has gotten here from home."

"Huh?" Okay, that part is definitely even more weird. "Then...but it was May when I left. Suddenly it's October? How does that even work?"

Even thinking about all the potential time differences is starting to make her head hurt a little. Even so, the second Yu makes that suggestion she's entirely focused once more, because if that's what he thinks they should do then it's probably the right thing to do.

"You're right...want me to scan for them, see if I can connect to them? At least then we'll know if they're here or not, right?"

"Time works differently here. And if we were pulled from different times then it doesn't look like it has any rules it follows." even Yu has to admit that it sounds weird in his mind too.

He looks around and realizes from last time anyone saw a persona pop up, there was mixed reactions. And not wanting to scare any of the newcomers, it may not be the best idea for her to summon here. But that didn't mean anywhere else.

"Not here but we can go somewhere else a little more quiet. Last time a persona was called, there were questions."
tofu_idol: ([might be listening])

[personal profile] tofu_idol 2013-10-23 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then I guess there's not much point thinking about it." Not right now, anyway. Time shenanigans she'll care about once she has herself better grounded in being here.

She's not surprised, entirely, by his response. She'd never summoned in the real world before, though she now knows it's possible, but she can quite imagine how it might seem to the uninitiated.

"All right. Well, you know this place better than I do...for now. Looks like you'll have to navigate for a change." She's trying to lighten the mood just a little but she's still a touch on edge and it likely shows.

Some were surprised, some knew what it was, and in Akihiko's case, he decided to summon his own but forgot to tell Yu about the Evoker and scared the hell out of him. Of course it's pre-bear fight version but still

He nods and takes her by the hand, trying to keep the mood calming. "There's a place by the river. Everyone will be around here mostly so the chance of anyone seeing us will be slim."

But then again, he seems to have shitty luck when things like this happen.

She smiles as he takes her hand, feeling a lot better for it and not just because of what she's been told about physical contact being necessary here. "That sounds perfect. Lead the way, senpai."

Even if it turns out not to work out, getting away from everyone doesn't sound like such a terrible idea right now.

If only he was thinking the same thing, Rise. Totally innocent this one is.

He navigates around the rest of the newcomers and out of the Welcome Center like it was nothing new to him. Being here four months already, he already has a good grip of where to go and where not to be seen. Like persona summoning in the park is way better except for this time. Since most newcomers would be either going around the apartment complex or staying within the district, it would be easier to pinpoint. That and the closer they are, the easier it would be.

Up past the beachside shack and a bit further away and he found the area. And thankfully no one in sight.

"Alright, we're here."
