Summary: The new arrivals, freshly pulled from their worlds or others, awaken in a strange plaza...

The lanterns flicker and the shadows rise...

Perhaps you felt a rumble beneath your feet, a sensation of what you were standing upon giving way underneath you as something pulled you in and away from what it was you were doing. Or, perhaps it was simply a gentle tap on your shoulder before you had the same tugging sensation from behind your navel. No matter which it was; there is one other constant:

A quiet rustle of the wind, wherever it is coming from as it hits your face.

The earth grumbling beneath you resounds with something unintelligible. Of course; it's the earth. Dirt can't speak, after all. Yet it won't stop, nor does the wind. All you wanted to do was sleep...

Yet suddenly it stops, and as you begin to stir, you begin to feel the crisp wind still seems to be picking up, yet as it settles, it's almost as if it whispers something to your ear.

'elp... u... sh....

Before you can make sense of it, it is gone; and when you awaken, you begin to realize your surroundings. It looks like...a plaza of some sort? As they look around them, the ground beneath them is an intricate mosaic - a water fountain at the center of the plaza in this foreign world. There are many buildings around its perimeter, making this location seem like a central hub of whatever town this was. Some may even recognize the peculiar design of the buildings and sloped tiled rooftops as a Far Eastern theme. Were they somewhere along the Pacific? Who knows! But what is quite apparent is this: Along with the many buildings surrounding the plaza, the first thing that is noticeable is the amount of people sitting or standing around you in a similar daze.

You are not alone...

One building seems to stand out among all the others; one that seems large enough to house all of the completely lost and confused masses gathered here to the welcome plaza. A sign outside the door reads:
WELCOME CENTER
Newcomers: Please come inside for refreshments and your welcome packets!

Odd... This wasn't written in your own language, and yet you find it easily understandable. Soon enough, if you don't enter on your own, someone comes from inside the double doors to usher you and everyone else inside.

"Welcome to Saeng Seong! I know you must be confused as to where you are and what's going on, but we promise to explain this to you once we're inside and away from this windstorm!"

Whether you go inside immediately or linger outside a little longer, eventually you must come in from the slight autumn chill, and sooner rather than later would probably be better. ...What was that shadow from the corner of your vision?

You'll find yourself in a well-lit lobby, filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs. Along one wall are refreshment tables, loaded with all sorts of food and drink, including some you probably aren't familiar with. On the wall opposite are a pair of desks, each with a sign and a person seated behind them -

Unlike a few waves before, the only people in charge seem to be the people behind the desks. They look a bit busy.

However, before you can go over and give them a piece of your mind and ask questions, the same person who ushered you inside hands you a manilla envelope that contains your welcome packet, urging you to read this before asking the two figures questions that the packet likely answers.

Inside it, you will find: a ring with a key and apartment number on it, some kind of cash card, a map and informational guide to the city, and a letter folded neatly on the top -

Welcome to Saeng Seong!

You are among a new group of arrivals to our city, from many far-apart worlds.
We have gathered you here because our city is in a crisis, and we are at our last resorts. The energy of the city is in a slow downward spiral, and is dangerously close to expiring altogether.

That's where you come in - you and everyone else we've brought to the city. Unlike those of us here, you have the potential to generate the energy the city needs, but you'll need to work together to do it.

Why? Because the energy can only be generated when two people touch each other. Any touch will do, but it must be between two of you who are new to the city. If you don't keep in contact with someone, eventually your energy will begin to drain as well, making you dangerously ill.

A few other things:

The closed-off sections of the city are closed off for a reason; approaching them will cause your energy to drain very rapidly. We're working to open the rest of the city to you as soon as we can, but for now, please remain within the four districts in the south and west parts of the city

You have been given a key to a one-bedroom apartment in a complex set aside for you and the other new arrivals, near the riverside in the 1st district. You're free to change your living quarters whenever you like, and we encourage you to move in with someone in one of the larger apartments. When you want to change, just come back to this building to exchange your key.

We've also included a cash card with a living stipend; if you're unfamiliar with this system, or the network established for new arrivals, you can talk to Devin in the lobby for help. It's what he's here for. If you need medical assistance, contact Mai, one of our newest and brightest doctors.

Back behind you, others still linger, and through the translucent glass you can see a banner hanging from the tiled roof of the building across the street in the blistering summer day:

"We both really like animals! Well...nice animals. Once a mean dog attacked my brother and he had to kill it, but he had no choice. He really likes dogs. I really like birds. My father calls me 'little bird' all the time at home!" Diarmuid gives the teddy bear a head pat and then moves so he is looking at Kotaro again.

"Humans don't live that long?" Diarmuid gives the younger boy a closer look, only now really noticing the fangs. When he sees them, his eyes grow wide, "Are you a spirit? Or a god? Both of those live a lot longer than humans do, so your brother would be right!"

Oh... um... he wasn't supposed to tell humans this right? But Kotaro was the worst at keeping secrets and hadn't actually had to ever be around any humans who weren't part of the Order Coffin Company for any length of time.

"Um... it's a secret, but I can tell you, if you promise not to tell!"

"Will you get into trouble if you tell me?" A worried look crosses Diarmuid's face, "I don't want you to get into trouble! The only other person I would tell is my brother, because we don't hide things from each other, but we won't tell anyone else. I promise!"

"Um..." He thought about that and then shook his head. "No! Because I think you're a good person and so I can trust you to keep a secret and my brother might be a bit mad but he won't be when I explain." He thought for a moment and then nodded. "I won't make you keep secrets from your brother because that's really bad."

"Thank you! If it helps any, I am a bitty knight and my brother is a bitty hero! We won't lie or break our promises!" Diarmuid presses his hand against his chest over his heart, "I swear you can trust us!"

Kotaro beamed. He knew they would be good people! Heroes and knights were great people who saved everyone in stories!

He skipped a bit closer, taking Diarmuid's hand because the nice rat lady had told him holding hands was important here. "I'm a Black Blood!" He whispered.

Diarmuid gives Kotaro's hand a gentle squeeze, glad that the boy is so willing to trust him. However, the blond boy's answer doesn't really tell Diarmuid anything.

"A Black Blood?" He keeps his voice low, since Kotaro is doing the same, "What does that mean? Is it a kind of spirit? Or a kind of fairy?"

If so, it's a kind he's never heard of...

Kotaro shook his head giggling at the fact Diarmuid thought him a fairy. Being a fairy would be pretty awesome though, but weren't fairies really small? Even smaller than him?

"It's another word for vampire." He explained, since he knew that outside of the Special Zone most humans didn't use that term. "But Mimiko says that that is der...dero...der... a word people use when they don't think you're as good as them. Like I'm not supposed to call humans, humans but Red Bloods because it says that we are all people with blood... or something." He giggled, Mimiko's lectures on the subject had most went over his head.

"See!" He grinned showing Diarmuid his fangs. They weren't actually that impressive, since he was a kid still, and wasn't hungry.

"Vamp-ire?" Diarmuid gives the boy a curious look. The word is one he isn't familiar with. While many dark, troublesome spirits and creatures roam the land he is from, none of them really resemble the typical vampire of myth.

When Kotaro points out his fangs, Diarmuid does give them a closer look, but all they really make him think of are the animal and land spirits that are so common around his home. Considering how small, cute and friendly Kotaro is, Diarmuid is a lot more likely to equate whatever a vampire is to something like a nature sprint than something that might be less kind, "So you are a spirit? Something different from a human? I am just a human, but my father is a god! He has told me all kinds of stories about the creatures that live in our homeland, but none of them are called vampires."

He frowned thinking, bringing his hand to his face as he hummed his thinking sound. He wasn't really a spirit, not like the Dark Princess of the North or Sei... But he was different to a human. "I guess..."

The next words made him forget all about trying to figure that out though. "Your father is a god? I never met a god before! Or the son of one so your my first! I met a dragon though, the Lord Dragon! He looks like he's the same age as me but really he's hundreds and hundreds of years old! Do sons of gods get powers?"

Seeing Kotaro frown makes Diarmuid sad, since he knows it's his fault for not knowing what a vampire is. Fortunately, the other boy's frown doesn't last long and his excitement and questions make Diarmuid forget all about being sad. In fact, he starts giggling.

"My father isn't my father by blood, so I don't have any powers. I am just a normal boy!" This isn't something that seems to bother him though, "I will get some magical weapons when I get big! I have already seen them! Do you have powers? What special things can vamp-ires do?"

"Oh." Yes he had said that before. Kotaro still didn't know how that worked with humans but he figured Diarmuid must be from the equivalent of a broken bloodline, and been taken in by another human- or apparently in this case a god.

"Magical weapons?" This was a much more exciting topic than broken bloodlines. "What kind of magical weapons what do they do? I can fly and climb up walls. My brother has lots of powers and he says I will get more as I grow maybe!"

"It is a pair of swords and a pair of spears! Father hasn't told me all their abilities in specific, but I know they are magic because when I touched them they sang to me! I could hear it. Not everyone can, but since I can that means they will be my partners when I get older. The swords' names are Moralltach and Beagalltach and the spears' names are Gae Dearg and Gae Buidhe!"

They are quite long names for such a small boy to say, but Diarmuid doesn't seem to have any issues with them. He likes talking about his future partners, after all.

"You can fly?" Climbing up walls isn't all that impressive to Diarmuid because he sees men do that all the time. Flying is a completely different story, though, "I wish I could fly! It seems like so much fun being way up in the air!"

"I can! I can take you flying if you like. You won't be too big to carry!" He grinned, at Kotaro's age it was more like super long jumping rather than consistent flying but the effort was there.

"Please? Will you take me? I like being up high! There is so much to see!" Diarmuid jumps up and down he's so excited at the idea, so excited in fact, that he doesn't notice right away that his butterfly has returned, "And maybe you can take my brother up sometime? He is smaller than me and I know he would like to go too!"

"I will! I can take you both!" He paused, "Not at the same time, I might drop you!" And humans weren't impervious to harm like Black Bloods were.

"Oh! One at a time is fine!" Diarmuid never considered anything else to be honest. Kotaro might have a big heart, but his arms are still small, "My brother will be so excited! Thank you. Is there something I can do to pay you back?"

Kotaro grinned and jumped up and down in excitement before shaking his head. "No! I like flying so it's fun for me too! We will be able to see so many things!"

"We will all have a lot of fun!" Diarmuid gives Kotaro a big hug, "Just make sure you remember to touch people or get hugs daily or else you will get sick and not be able to use your powers. It would be sad if you couldn't fly! Being sick is no fun!"

"I will! I'm a good hugger and I want to use my powers! It would be sad if I couldn't!" Being sick was no fun at all!

"I'm a good hugger too!" Diarmuid giggles happily, "We should have a hug contest sometime! We... Oh! Little Dia is back!" The boy holds out his hand for his butterfly to land on, but after a moment his expression grows sad, "Little Dia didn't find your brother. I'm sorry..."

"That would be so fun!" His eyes shined and then he blinked as the butterfly came back, hoping for good news. His face fell though as he learned that the butterfly hadn't found his brother.

"He has to be here... He has to be... He get's mad and sad if he loses me." Kotaro sniffed, trying to stay brave.

Diarmuid throws his arms around Kotaro to give him a comforting, though slightly wet, hug, "It's okay! Don't be sad. Time stops when we are away from home. Your brother won't even know you are gone. I know it sounds impossible, but it's true! I went away and came back. I know it's true."

"He won't?" He sniffed again. How did time stop still? "You got to go home? Why did you come back?"

Diarmuid nods, "That's right. He won't! I don't know why this place sent me home and then brought me back, but it did. I was home for a whole year. My brother says only three days passed here. Isn't that weird? Time moves differently in fairy realms sometimes, but everyone keeps telling me there aren't any fairies here and it's not a fairy realm."
