He tries his best to take in what's being said to him, but he still doesn't understand. It feels like the words have stopped having meaning, or maybe that they never had meaning, and all that's left is noise that makes his head hurt. Even things like things that they like to do are hard enough for him to consider when he hasn't just been confronted with terrible experiences he didn't realize he had.
