I can fake a smile; I can force a laugh; I can dance and play the part, if that's what you ask...

Who: Luke and you.
Where: Building 2's library and District 3 & 4
When: Past week - July 7th
Summary: Luke's checking out the library, spending time at the mall (he works there now, too), and then meeting Gaara to train in District 4's Sacred Gardens.
Warnings: Will add when/if needed!

Luke had decided to spend some time, after work, checking out the assortment of books. While it had quite a few books he was interested in, on some level, he didn't see anything particularly useful. He checked out several on cooking. Since he was working in a place that prepared food, he figured why not? He didn't plan on working at the mall food court too long. In all honesty, he'd prefer to get a job at a much nicer restaurant down the line, if he was going to be stuck in Saeng Seong for an extended period of time. Of course, that was an entirely different subject, altogether. One he was avoiding thinking about, for the time being.

Sitting at one of the tables, Luke had his chin propped on one hand, elbow casually resting on the table. If someone were to ask him what he was reading about, he might be able to give them a vague description- in other words, he was half reading, half just...deep in thought. While he was avoiding thinking about something, other thoughts weren't so eager to allow themselves to be avoided.

One piece of evidence to his current state of mind, could be the fact that he'd been staring at the same page for a good...fifteen minutes, by that point.

[ mall ]

After finally picking out a job that he felt...he might even enjoy, on some level, the replica immediately latched on to the new distraction. Having a job was a nice way to keep himself busy enough...to not focus on how much he missed his friends. And boy, did he miss them. He knew, however, that there was no point in dwelling on it; they'd all prefer he not do that. To honor the wishes he knew they'd have, he pressed on. Most days, he offered to stay later than his scheduled time, or come in earlier. Well, why not? The more he worked, early on, the faster he'd have the hang of his responsibilities, there.

After work, he always took an hour, or so, to walk around the mall itself. He could be found checking out the various stores. He was never super eager to return to the apartment. So, on days he wasn't scheduled to meet with Diarmuid or Gaara, that was his current routine. Once he got a better hang on the world, he'd probably change it up, according to whatever turned out to be his favorite place. In the meantime, however, that was it, for directly after work.

Besides, there were still stores he hadn't completely checked out.

The first thing Luke needed?

A sword. In spite of the peaceful state of the world, Luke still couldn't bring himself to be...okay with not having one. So, the second he got his first paycheck, he was using the money to seek out one that was avoidable. It didn't have to be the most sturdy. He simply needed one to tide him over for...just in case. The last world he'd been in had been completely peaceful, at first, after all...

After dragging convincing Gaara to come along, Luke took any and every bit of advice the other redhead had. Once the weapon was bought, they made their way over to their usual training area, the place called The Sacred Gardens. It was the first place that Gaara trained Luke with the kunai he'd gifted him, and it easily became routine. Luke didn't mind that. In some ways, having the routine...helped? While he'd quickly become used to the chaotic days since his initial spiriting away from Baticul manor, some part of him found it...nice to be able to expect something (that wasn't a bimonthly murder attempt).

During their training, Luke paid every bit of attention to any and all advice and instruction Gaara had to give. He was...definitely a strict and serious teacher. Luke attempted to push any and all reminders of M- ...Van out of his mind. Try as he might, though, that wasn't exactly easy. It hadn't even been close to half a year, according to his memory...since...that day. Regardless of the fact that he'd told Van he didn't need him, any more, there was always going to be those memories. He'd always be a huge chunk of Luke's past. The fact remained that he'd played a huge part of Luke having been born.

Those thoughts aside, Luke poured himself into the hours that passed. Unfortunately, Gaara managed to land some hits that Luke cursed himself for not blocking. Gaara was right, though, in that Luke did leave himself wide open when attacking. It was...frustrating, on some levels. He'd managed to aid in the defeat of a man like Van, yet he wasn't able to do something as simple as- ...Well. In his defense, he'd gotten quite used to fighting alongside reliable comrades...
