Where: An open area in district 7
When: March 10th
Summary: It's Bucky's birthday and Steve wants to celebrate it. Friends and tolerated allies are all invited.
Warnings: None for now!



Unlike the potluck, Steve already had all the food out and ready for the party. None of it was really fancy, mostly just pizza and sandwiches that he bought. He wasn't exactly rich, so those would have to do. But he did manage to get a birthday cake for Bucky and it was lying in the center of a table, thankfully only covered with two candles that read '98.'

He had asked Bucky who he wanted to invite to the party and from there, Steve asked them through the communication network if they could attend. He was hoping that many showed up... although he was pretty pleased to know that Bucky had several people here that liked being his friend. Or. At least tolerated him.

That was a good step.

The overall area was decorated with an adequate amount of balloons and there was a place where people could place their presents if they bought one. Steve didn't really require anyone to buy one though.

For now, Steve was just standing around with Bucky, talking to him as they waited for guests to arrive.

"Yeah." It was kinda difficult not to notice a giant robot giving Bucky a blue knife. While a small part of him was questioning why someone would give his friend more weapons, he was mostly happy for him. It wasn't hard to figure out that Chromia giving Bucky her own specialized blade was something that she would only do for people she really cared about.

And sure, Bucky had a lot of weapons. But the majority of them didn't have any sentimental value. Maybe this would be good for Bucky. It wasn't like he didn't trust his friend with a blade.

"She really respects you."

Bucky hesitated a moment and frowned, looking down at the piece of metal he'd already taken out. He knew that Chromia trusted him just as he trusted her, but respect wasn't something he thought really applied to him.

"You think so?"

"I'm certain of it, Bucky. She's a bodyguard, giving away a personal weapon probably means that she respects you." Steve would probably give Bucky his shield to him if there was ever a reason for it. He trusted him and he knew that his friend would do his best to protect people now. His shield held meaning to him, so he wouldn't just give it to anyone.

"It's how I feel about the shield."

He tried to think about what circumstances would make him give away his weapons. There really wasn't a singular one that held any meaning to him, but... he supposed he could understand it a little better that way.

"Guess that makes sense."

"Wouldn't hesitate to give you the shield."

He knew that Bucky wielded the weapon before, but he hadn't actually given it to him willingly yet. Steve supposed there would be a time for that in the future, but he might as well tell Bucky now that he both trusted and respected him.

Maybe it was something a little more than that too. After all, Bucky was his best friend- his only friend for the longest time. Even when he had nothing, he had Bucky.

Bucky was a little taken aback by the admission. The thought of taking Steve's shield for anything more than a few minutes was... strange. The shield belonged to Steve, and even if he allowed others to use it in the heat of battle, it wasn't something to be given away.

"I wouldn't want it."

He said it with a mildly uneasy look on his face. Sure, he could handle it, but if Steve gave him the shield, it meant he wouldn't be fighting by his side. He wasn't interested.

This was probably branching into a conversation that shouldn't be talked about on Bucky's birthday. Maybe it was something that they would have to eventually talk about later on, even if the topic was very uncomfortable. He knew how dangerous his job was and Bucky wasn't safe in his position either.

He nudged Bucky in the side, smiling a little to make the uneasy atmosphere go away. "Don't worry, you won't be getting rid of me that easily."
