Who: Kurt and open to all (particularly all who are inclined to climb on things for little to no reason, or at least look up)
Where: District 1, exploring in a distinctly non-linear way

Summary: Kurt's not actually all that good at playing normal human, image inducer or not. Wandering and socializing in an extra dimension. Come poke him.

Kurt first intended to just go for an exploratory walk, but he's long since abandoned that verb. He's not ready to turn off his image inducer, but there are some people stranger than he is here, and the odd architecture and raised walkways and tall buildings are too tempting. It's not like anyone's going to see him climbing into random trees and roofs and tell people at school, after all. So while he is on the ground occasionally, he's not inclined to give it any more attention than walls and the convenient eaves and brackets of the buildings. The freedom of movement is daring and leaves him almost cheerful. There might be some advantages to not being home.

"Always, but also for people in trouble." She felt she had to explain. She would look for a way out, but she was crap at science and not much good with magic or any other method that might get them out of here. Finding a magical doorway out of this universe wasn't a very good probability.

"It's kind of my job."

"It's a good job, too. I've never done it full time, but I guess missing class isn't what you'd call a big deal here." The only person he actually knew who did the masked avenger thing all the time was Angel, but it was still super cool. And maybe he was showing off a little bit, trying to be blase about the whole thing.

"The Shire, off on the edge of Hobbiton in the Took family residence," Pippin explains readily. "Oh, and that's part of the countries to the west of the lands of Men, in Middle Earth. I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't heard of it. No one in the last place I fell into had, either."

"Nein. Sounds nice, though." The Lands of Men? Very cool. He's always been a big fantasy geek and only reluctantly ever gave up the hope that he'd one day be called on to save some princesses and vanquish beasts. Middle Earth is definitely an odd name, but he's getting used to that.

So he was a vigilante. And also part monkey. That was interesting knowledge, and she stored it away for later. She couldn't make sense of it just now, when she wasn't trying to sit down and get to know him.

"Hey, stay in school. It's good for you." She gave him a slight wink. School had done her a great deal of good, and she managed to keep up the Batgirl thing on the side.

Even more when it was vigilante school! Not that the professor would own up to that, and he tended to disapprove at least a little when the students went out to beat up bad guys as an extracurricular, or even just do some incidental rescuing. It was still hard to miss the implications of training to use their powers all day. "Be happy to, if it were in this dimension. Unfortunately, the Institute und Bayville High are both where I left them." Well, he hoped, anyway.

"I rather like it. A bit dull sometimes, of course, but then you find places like this." Pippin cranes his neck to look up and around at all the buildings again. "Really, a lot like Gondor. Except less mountain-y, I suppose. But I'm glad I got to see it. Now we just have to make the city better again, so we can go back, right?"

However that works. Pippin still isn't entirely sure, but he's going with it, since he's used to not entirely understanding the goings-on.

"If that's true. That doesn't sound super shady to you? I'm a little annoyed about being kidnapped, anyway." He hasn't been sure how to deal with the people who are cheerful and cooperative. Though he suspects that'd be much less the case if it weren't for his fur problem.

"B-before?"

Oh.

Oh dear. She realizes her mixup a second too late, with not nearly enough time to control or mask her expression into something other then 'oh NOT good.' The best M'gann can do is give a nervous laugh, glancing away to look at the building around them.

"Oh! Well...Like I said, Massachusetts was before Rhode Island. Um, before then I was with my family in-" Think think think because this would be a really good time to come up with an Earth location.

"Q-Qurac. Um, Middle East territory. That's where some of my family is at." That technically isn't a full lie, either; just her adoptive family instead of the one on Mars.

His geography is pretty good, and he doesn't know that one, but he doesn't let himself question her more. Never mind that it's a bit rude. It'd invite being interrogated right back. "You moved around a lot," he says instead with a cheerful nod. "I've only lived the two places. Just... On opposite sides of the ocean." And he's been to Canada. And Egypt. And space. But that's hard to work into a perfectly normal conversation.

"Well, 'only two places' or not, I like talking to you anyway." She's so matter of fact when she says that, and equally sincere. Though after she says that, M'gann notices that the light is well fading from the sky; they're not even standing in shadow now, just an ambient evening darkness.

"I should probably get going, though." She has miscreants to punch things to do, after all. But first, M'gann gets her second to last pastry out of the bag. "Here, have one more for the road?"

"Nein, don't want to take your snacks. You might need them to bait more weirdos down from trees." He shrugs with a self-deprecating smile. "Have fun. I'll see you around." It is nice to have someone around his own age to talk with, even if she is an excitable cheerleader type who'd probably scream if she saw him for real, not to mention pretend he didn't exist in an actual high school. Being a mutant and a geek doesn't really make for good high school experiences. He's cynical.

"It is a bit rude of them. But maybe they were desperate, and didn't have the opportunity to ask us," Pippin muses, generally trying to see the best in a given situation, if it isn't readily and obviously frightening. "They have been rather apologetic about it all, anyway. Though maybe if you asked the right person, they'd send you home even before the city has been fixed? If it really bothers you that much."

Well, there's a twinge of guilt. Helping people really should be his main goal, and they haven't done anything bad or contrary to the information in the introductory packet yet. It's actually rather pleasanter than high school here. "I don't think that'd help. I just kind of wish they'd explain more, if there's not a way out..."

"Well, okay. Now I know a good way to get you to open up conversations, though." And get him down from trees for more socializing. He seems like a nice enough person, kind of like her in that sort-of-kind-of new kid sense. (And perhaps more then kind of in other categories, though she's a long way from realizing that.)

M'gann gives another friendly wave and smile as she leaves, before turning her attention to what she'll be doing tonight. And how to make the last of that treat in her hand disappear.

She restrained a snort. He seemed genuinely distressed that he couldn't go back to school. Which was sort of what she'd suggested, but still strange and amusing.

"Well, you know, when you go home. Hopefully school will still be there."

Kurt had a lot more tied up in school than most. It wasn't history essays that he was upset about, certainly. "Well, I hope so. If I got insta-kidnapped, who knows what else might be happening at home?" Which was depressing, but there was no way around it.

"Maybe you should go talk to Devin!" Pippin suggests brightly. "He was very helpful when I first showed up, he explained cash cards and apartments and everything. And he says we can bother him whenever, if we have trouble." Nevermind that Devin's job is technological problems. Pippin doesn't really know the difference, so he just assumes that guy is good for everything.

Usually he's the cheerful, optimistic one. Yeesh. "Those parts aren't so weird." In some ways, it's not so unlike home, but that really just makes it creepier, somehow. "But ja, maybe I will." It might be easier to just agree to everything under the current circumstances, and it makes him question his own paranoia, seeing someone so comfortable with the situation.
