There's a nervous feeling to this morning. More than a few people milling around the giant gates of Districts Five and Three. Among them are officials, giving safety and advisory talks on what to expect outside, and hoping that people will listen: it's not safe outside the walls, there is an energy drain in place that can only be held off by keeping in contact with someone (and that only lasts so long) plus a reminder on where the signal was pinpointed. Somewhere off to the north east of the city...And to be careful out there, above all else.

True to the announcement, the city gates open in the morning hours with plenty of heavy rattling noises to mark the occasion. And with that, all that's left is to step through the gates to the world outside.

Out there it feels like there's a near permanent coating of rust and ash on every surface, determined to work its way onto your mouth and into your lungs. Looming out of the shattered remains of streets and sidewalks are crumbled buildings that look like gaunt old skeletons of the familiar Saeng Seong locals. There's a stillness to the air that can weigh heavy on one's shoulders…And can probably get all the more heavy if you're not keeping up contact. You DID bring a buddy along to help you explore, right?

The company is probably needed, given how empty and desolate the outside feels. Save for the occasional groan of a ruin falling a little more apart...And perhaps a skittering of something close by.

Welcome to the dead zone ringing the city. Best look alive out there.

Who: Everyone
Where: The Welcome Center
When: 18th March, afternoon
Summary: The new arrivals, freshly pulled from their worlds or others, awaken in a strange place...
Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. SOME NPC RESPONSES WILL BE SLOW UNTIL THE ONE WHO PLAYS THEM IS PRESENT.

It's a shuddering breath, a sensation of being pulled to elsewhere and finding oneself pressed against something on the soft and some place cozy. However, before one can fully stir, there is and odd, warm stirring sensation that lifts you up from wherever you've been dropped, when you begin to drift off once more.

Yet the feeling passes quickly, and when you awaken, you begin to realize your surroundings. It's a small room with what some might recognize as a Far Eastern theme when it comes to decor, from the walls to the sofa (or bed) you find yourself on. Illumination is provided by carefully crafted lamps, and even a candle flickering on a nearby desk. The doors are made from paper and wood, with a thin frame; through them it's easy to hear other people stirring, talking, or coming to.

You are not alone...

Close at hand there's a note that reads:

WELCOME CENTER
Newcomers: Please come downstairs to the lobby for refreshments and your welcome packets!

Odd... This wasn't written in your own language, and yet you find it easily understandable. Soon enough, if you don't enter on your own, there's a gentle knocking on the door as someone comes from downstairs to usher you along.

"Welcome to Saeng Seong! I know you must be confused as to where you are and what's going on, but we promise to explain this to you once you've had a chance to stretch your legs!"

Whether you go downstairs immediately or linger a little longer, eventually you must come down and get out of the small space, and sooner rather than later would probably be better. You'll find yourself in a well-lit lobby, filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs. Along one wall are refreshment tables, loaded with all sorts of warming, comforting food and drink, including some you probably aren't familiar with. On the wall opposite are a pair of desks, each with a sign and a person seated behind them -

Irene, General Assistance
Devin, Technological Assistance

Unlike a few waves before, the only people in charge seem to be the people behind the desks. They look a bit busy.

However, before you can go over and give them a piece of your mind and ask questions, the same person who ushered you downstairs hands you a manilla envelope that contains your welcome packet, urging you to read this before asking the two figures questions that the packet likely answers.

Inside it, you will find: a ring with a key and apartment number on it, some kind of cash card, a map and informational guide to the city, and a letter folded neatly on the top -

Welcome to Saeng Seong!

You are among a new group of arrivals to our city, from many far-apart worlds.
We have gathered you here because our city is in a crisis, and we are at our last resorts. The energy of the city is in a slow downward spiral, and is dangerously close to expiring altogether.

That's where you come in - you and everyone else we've brought to the city. Unlike those of us here, you have the potential to generate the energy the city needs, but you'll need to work together to do it.

Why? Because the energy can only be generated when two people touch each other. Any touch will do, but it must be between two of you who are new to the city. If you don't keep in contact with someone, eventually your energy will begin to drain as well, making you dangerously ill.

A few other things:

The closed-off sections of the city are closed off for a reason; approaching them will cause your energy to drain very rapidly. We're working to open the rest of the city to you as soon as we can, but for now, please remain within the first five districts of the city.

You have been given a key to a one-bedroom apartment in a complex set aside for you and the other new arrivals, near the riverside in the 1st district. You're free to change your living quarters whenever you like, and we encourage you to move in with someone in one of the larger apartments. When you want to change, just come back to this building to exchange your key.

We've also included a cash card with a living stipend; if you're unfamiliar with this system, or the network established for new arrivals, you can talk to Devin in the lobby for help. It's what he's here for. If you need medical assistance, contact Mai, one of our nurses.

Again, welcome, and thank you for all your help.

Who: Annie and you!
Where: District One
When: The eighth.
Summary/Warnings: Annie tries to hop buildings, with disastrous results. WARNING FOR INJURIES OF A NONDEATHLY MANNER.

Annie barely felt the wind whistling past her hair, the shape shifted clothing she wore stiff in the wind. It wasn't her normal clothing: she was drenched in black, now, a matching mask melded to her face. Super heroes were supposed to wear costumes, like this, she thought. Though M'gann didn't... and neither did Conner. Or Kara. Maybe only the human ones did?

Robin did.

She took a deep, useless breath, forgetting to breathe it out again, and walked to the edge of her building's roof. Another one stood not far in front of her. A pole jutted out between the two, a simple band of metal that Annie stared intently at. Holding her hand out, she focused. A coil of clay shot out from the center of her palm, the end widening until it looked like a bat, which wrapped itself around the rod. She tugged briefly to make sure it was secured, and then leapt over the edge.

Streets and people and lights passed below her, chattering masses with no idea of who was flying over their heads. She tried not to scream out as the wind whistled faster, her hair streaming behind. The breath she'd forgotten escaped her lungs as the next roof top came up before her. She thought that Robin would be proud...

His face swam in front of her thoughts, and the rope of clay dissolved with her concentration, snapping back into her. She slammed into the roof's surface, the harsh material biting into her knees and back and neck as she rolled over. A light lurch as she smacked into the edge - and then just air. The streets and the lights and the milling masses passed below her while she stared down, and Robin's disapproving face swam, in front of her as she plummeted toward them. She screamed before she hit the concrete, the impact crushing her to a mere stain of clay upon the surface. Silent.

The earthy material bubbled. An arm appeared, pushing at the ground. Another arm joined it, a hunched over back emerging as the head followed it forth. As if she were merely pulling herself out of a pool, Annie rose and reformed. She stared up at the building she'd come down from, and then glanced at her hands. She focused on making the fingers stretch, searching for handholds so that she could try and climb back to the roof.

Again. This time better. The third try was the charm.

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: Newly opened District 5.
When: February 1st
Summary: A new district up and running, a new opportunity for shenanigans!
Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk.

A change comes in the evening, as the barricades in the fourth and third districts are carefully disassembled and put aside. What's more, a quick broadcast goes up across the network:

'The Fifth District has been opened; all are welcome to explore, this time.'

And sure enough, everyone can easily come and go this time around; there's no doctors or equipment on hand. And by the time the sun goes down and the passages are fully open, the new district is lighting up. And the glow from the lights is bright enough to chase some of the chill out of the night and leave the neighborhood open for exploration.

There's plenty of buildings, mostly catering towards entertainment of some sort (and even a few movie theaters, and a hot springs and zoo closer to the fourth district) but the real hub is along the river. That's where the boardwalk can be found. It stretches from the city wall to the border of the fourth district, and is lined with shops, features an aquarium, and at the southern most end contains an amusement park. Complete with a ferris wheel that is well lit up and shining bright against the sky as the sun sets.

Welcome to the fifth district.

"Movies, snacks, nail polish…" M'gann flits back and forth, hovering in the air one second before touching the ground…And then making a nervous hop back into the air again. She can't keep all that energy and anticipation in check, though; this is it, her first real slumber party since arriving at Saeng Seong. And as such, it needs to be as perfect as she can manage.

"Ice cream?" The refrigerator door gets nudged open by an invisible hand, long enough for M'gann to glance inside and give a nod. Ice cream (in multiple flavors!) is present and accounted for. And thanks to that earlier shopping trip with Robin, she's finally prepared with a real television and VCR! And even a few movies to watch on it! (Granted, they're titles she's never heard of, but they sound fun enough.)

And given that she's sent out invitations a few minutes ago, all M'gann has to do now is wait.

…And do some more nervous floating in the meantime.

Warnings: References to violent death possible?

Is this his Christmas gift, or his birthday gift?

Either way, carrying it and running was a horrific drag. He was running because he didn't want to be stopped, questioned, and interrogated about it, but he kept having to skid to a stop, make sure nothing was bent, nothing was ripped, the paper was thinner than he remembered, or was his memory fading?

He unfurled it again, feet slowing, to study the six silhouettes, the old-timey block lettering, the bright coloring. Bright, but with a post-modern aspect to how it looked printed across. Jack Haly was always trying to find that perfect balance between old-time feel-good amazement and new-agey Cirque dazzle.

"Who frames posters around here anyway," he muttered under his breath, rolling it carefully back up. Hated to do it, but he couldn't carry it swinging free, and he broke into another run, eyes watching not the path ahead of him, but the storefronts. Anything about posters? Or even photogr--

"Augh!" he grunted, barely managing to twist himself so that he collided with the unlucky bystander shoulder first.

Not-holding-poster-arm first, even. He had a brief second to congratulate himself for his remedial crisis aversion, before giving an absent-minded glance at his victim.

"Sorry. In a hurry."

When: December 25th
Summary: A dimensional pull happens for a brief, brief amount of time...And quite a few things come through!
Warnings: Many, many presents.

Sometime in the morning, a message flashes up on the terminal screens; 'Your items have been gathered in the Welcome Square and the Welcome Center. Please pick them up as soon as possible.' That's all it says, and it stick around on the screens for most of the day.

As for the square proper? During the night, it seems that someone has made mischief and merry with the holiday lights, and strung them around the fountain. The end result is a twinkling structure, which forms the center in a pile of gifts that have been stacked up and around. There are tags on the packages, with the recipients name printed clearly across them. A few of the more fragile (or living) gifts have been moved inside, and a handful of them can also be found on the roof of the building.

And for a few people? They might not find much when it comes to their gifts, until they return to their apartments and find something waiting for them. Either way, the gifts have arrived, in order to spread some cheer. Or complete confusion.

Where: One more city wide event, for good measure!
When: December 20th-22nd
Summary: The winter festivities get interrupted, with animated and angry snowmen on the prowl.
Warnings: Snowmen violence.

It's been a (relatively) calm few days of snowfall and winter celebration. The snow has settled over Saeng Seong like a fluffy white blanket, with more and more snowmen popping up as the days go by. It all looks quiet and serene.

Naturally, this can't last forever. And that stillness is fractured in the afternoon, with the appearance of odd dark stones placed on those snowmen that have been showing up. The peace breaks completely at sundown, when the snowmen lurch into motion, with moans and growls that sound a lot more at home in a zombie movie than a winter wonderland. Then again, these certainly don't LOOK like cheery snowmen, either. In fact, they look down right hostile. Especially when they pack more snow into themselves, and the cold air twists them into more sinister looking forms.

In fact, the only thing that gives them pause are some green eyes, peering out of different parts of the city, along with some mewing sounds. (And mewing that might be familiar, to some of the residents!) It's an odd contrast and thing for them to avoid, but avoid it they do. Which only serves to make them that much more violent when they DO find someone in the streets.

Uh oh...

Who: Everyone
Where: The Welcome Plaza
When: 18th December, afternoon
Summary: The new arrivals, freshly pulled from their worlds or others, awaken in a strange plaza...
Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. SOME NPC RESPONSES WILL BE SLOW UNTIL THE ONE WHO PLAYS THEM IS PRESENT. Also, snow and a few kittens.

The first flickering of a lantern...

It's a shuddering breath, a sensation of being pulled to elsewhere and finding oneself pressed against something rather hard with the sound of something soft and cold crunching underfoot and underneath where they've been dropped. However, before one can fully stir, there is and odd, warm stirring sensation that lifts you up from the half chilled stone when you begin to drift off once more. It felt as though someone had thrown you from the frying pan, and then into the freezer - all you wanted to do was sleep...

Yet the feeling passes quickly, and when you awaken, you begin to realize your surroundings. It looks like...a plaza of some sort? One covered in snow, with a few winter decorations placed around it. As people look around, the ground that's been cleared of snow thanks to so many feet shows an intricate mosiac - a water fountain at the center of the plaza in this foreign world, which has been shut off due to the chill. There are many buildings around its perimeter, making this location seem like a central hub of whatever town this was. Some may even recognize the peculiar design of the buildings and sloped tiled rooftops as a Far Eastern theme. Were they somewhere along the Pacific? Who knows! But what is quite apparent is this: Along with the many buildings surrounding the plaza, the first thing that is noticeable is the amount of people sitting or standing around you in a similar daze.

You are not alone...

And there seems to be a handful of...Cats? Smallish, dark colored ones, who seem to be determined to stay just out of reach until they're good and ready to cross someone's path or brush up against them. (And cause some panic and chaos along the way.)

One building seems to stand out among all the others; one that seems large enough to house all of the completely lost and confused masses gathered here to the welcome plaza. A sign outside the door reads:
WELCOME CENTER
Newcomers: Please come inside for refreshments and your welcome packets!

Odd... This wasn't written in your own language, and yet you find it easily understandable. Soon enough, if you don't enter on your own, someone comes from inside the double doors to usher you and everyone else inside.

"Welcome to Saeng Seong! I know you must be confused as to where you are and what's going on, but we promise to explain this to you once we're inside and out of the cold!"

Whether you go inside immediately or linger outside a little longer, eventually you must come in and get away from the chill, and sooner rather than later would probably be better. You'll find yourself in a well-lit lobby, filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs. Along one wall are refreshment tables, loaded with all sorts of warming, comforting food and drink, including some you probably aren't familiar with.

Irene
Arrival Liaison

Back behind you, others still linger, and through the translucent glass you can see a banner hanging from the tiled roof of the building across the street. It's looking oddly bright and cheery against a darkened sky, which is putting out more snow:

WELCOME TO SAENG SEONG
(ENJOY YOUR STAY!)

Who: Everyone!
Where: City wide event!
When: December 15th-18th
Summary: Winter rolls into Saeng Seong, with pretty results.
Warnings: Low temperatures.

Snow! There's honest to goodness snow falling from the sky, gathering on the roofs and the ground. And in response, winter foods, drinks, and treats start to appear in the shops. There's also no shortage of scarves and winter coats for sale.

The town seems to be in a bit of a cold weather slump in some neighborhoods, though; there's even instances of graffiti showing up on buildings in the commercial district.

Still, it doesn't seem to be all bad; there's even a few winter decorations cropping up, along with snowmen! District 3 is in full on glitz with electric lights and (carefully!) arranged lit candles and winter lanterns; there's even some curious looking talismans that have been placed across doorways; which take the form of small candles with scraps of paper tied to them, with protective or auspicious phrases written down. And it seems like these decorations glow that much brighter when two (or more!) people are close by, and close together. It's a similar story in District 4, with some of the trees decorated in lights, and the ponds and rivers starting to freeze over with just that right consistency for ice skating. There's even a few boxes of decorations left out and left over, if someone takes it into their heads to do a little bit of decorating as well.

Who: Conner and M'gann, probably Annie at some point, and I suppose anyone in their building who is wondering about the hubbub.
Where: M'gann's Apartment
When: THE NEXT DAY. Later than late-ish (probably about 1AM)
Summary: Conner is a good boyfriend.
Warnings: Massive squees, Christmas spirit.

Conner stood back to criticize his work. Not admire - to admire his work would be to infer that the tree wasn't bent against the ceiling, its top dangling crook-necked and pitiful. It would also infer that his attempts to kick the dirt off the roots was successful. He tried to clean up his mess, but he didn't have the domestic talent M'gann did. Dirt had smeared into the flooring where he had stepped and the resulting boot prints were everywhere.

He scowled and belatedly kicked off his shoes, shoving them in the corner beside the tree. Alright, so, maybe this hadn't gone exactly to plan. Maybe he had miscalculated the height of the tree in comparison to the height of her apartment. And maybe he should rent a carpet cleaner, though he wasn't exactly where he could find one around here. He sighed heavily. It had to be the thought that counted, right?

He was more fit to save countries than to perform romantic gestures (and then clean up after them). Conner only hoped he hadn't been too loud bringing the tree up and in. Getting a couch through a narrow apartment door was one thing, getting a tree through was another. He probably lost another third of the needles just trying to get it up the stairwell. Robin and M'gann were the stealthy ones, not him. He didn't even have a stealth mode button on his uniform. Probably because it was his daily outfit, but still.

Who: M'gann, Annie, possibly any teammates or friends stopping by?
Where: M'gann's apartment
When: November 18th (Hooray for backdating!)
Summary: Getting out of the rain and better adjusted to new places and circumstances is important; M'gann and Annie try to achieve that.
Warnings: Scared kids, confused martians, yanked heartstrings

The window to the apartment unlocks from the inside, and rattles open as a few of the lights get switched on by some invisible hand. Even the little fish lantern hanging near the sofa gives off a gentle glow, lighting up the room. It's all very gentle and warm looking until someone ducks through the window, bringing a good amount of water in with her as she makes an awkward landing on the floor.

"Well, this is it…" M'gann says as she draws back her cloak, and motions for the window to slide shut. The rain patters against the glass, but stays outside. "I mean, this is where I live. You probably have an apartment assigned to you, too, but…I figured it would be better to get you out of the rain, first." She checks over the girl as she speaks, too, making sure there isn't any damage from the weather. And her cloak gives a ripple, before shortening back into its usual cape size instead of the near blanket she'd pushed it into.

"Are you okay? I tried to fly over here as fast as I could, without getting you soaked."
