Who: Yu and Shinju
Where: Their apartment and possibly elsewhere
When: March 17th
Summary: Shinju wants to make sure Yu feels appreciated on his birthday.
Warnings: None?
When he'd asked about Yu's birthday, he'd been thinking his fairly outgoing roommate would have wanted a party with all the friends he'd made here, or at least the ones he had from home. But he'd been somewhat avoidant about it, and Shinju didn't want to assume poorly and arrange something he wouldn't like. So instead of talking to the people Yu knew, he decided to simply do a few things for him--get him a present or two, make him something, ask if he wanted to see a movie or to the zoo, his treat. Whatever he did with the offers would be fine for Shinju. It was Yu's day to enjoy.
That was why he was up early in the morning, before his roommate usually woke up, making breakfast. It wasn't a lot or anything crazy, just breakfast. He planned to make a few cupcakes later as well, for whenever Yu felt like having one.
The two gifts he'd gotten (despite being unsure if Yu would like them) sat on the coffee table, wrapped neatly with a stick-on bow on each. Now he just had to wait until the other teenager woke up. It would probably also help if Shinju was awake; he couldn't hold back a yawn as he stood in front of the stove.

Spoiler: he went into Shinju's room and cuddled under the blankets.
He rubbed his eyes and slowly stood up to figure what was going on and what was cooking that smelled pretty good.
"Shinju...?" where did his roommate go?

"Good morning," he said, focusing on his roommate only for a few seconds so he could be sure breakfast wouldn't be burned. "Happy birthday."

"Thanks. Are you alright? You look pretty tired."

"A little, but it's no big deal. I can always get some more later."
It wasn't as if a lack of sleep was the end of the world; it wasn't as if he had any obligations other than work, and he'd taken the day off for that particular day.
"Any plans for today at all?" He knew Yu had been dismissive about it before, but he wondered if that had changed.

"I was wondering about that entertainment district that opened up a bit ago. I haven't been there yet, know anything about it?"
no subject
... and there were the hot springs, but if he planned to go to the district, Yu would eventually find out about those anyway, if he was interested.
"Breakfast is ready, by the way," Shinju said as he stepped away from the stove after turning it off. "I hope it's alright."

"Sounds like a good place to start."
Oh, and someone was also awake and interested in the cooked food now. Go back to bed Banchou.

He stepped over to get himself a glass of milk in the meantime. "Your presents are on the coffee table whenever you want to open them," he said, a little nervous about whether he would like them or not. But thankfully it wasn't like they couldn't just take things back and get something else...

Which meant he was going over to get them and unwrap them like a derp little kid. Except...cooler. And keeping his cat away from his food. Bad kitty!

Shinju took a few steps towards him as he somewhat anxiously watched, wondering if he might like them. He tried to seem casual, at least, and he held himself back from walking right up behind him and peering over his shoulder.
"What do you think?"

He had opened up the reader first and smiled at the thought of getting some new reading material because it was overdue. But the cat pajamas...did taking off his current shirt and putting on the new one count? Also smiling like an idiot because cats.
"I like them both. Thank you for the thoughtful gifts."
no subject
"G-good, I'm glad you like them." He scratched the back of his head, looking away as if to hide his own grin, even if he wasn't trying very hard. At least now he'd stopped being so nervous about the gifts so he could get his own breakfast.
