She stifles a more polite laugh before turning to Yu. "How may I help you two gentlemen?"

"Actually, we wanted to talk to you about the group Rangar. Specifically your brother."
That would get her attention.
"He wanted to tell you that 'The Dragon of Thunder still watches over the weak, and those who seek the truth.' Do you know what's he's talking about?"

It also helps he seems to be a natural at it...
Diarmuid stands up and bows his head to Rhea, thanking her for the compliment, and then adds his two cents into Yu's answer, "He said that you were the only one we could trust and that the scientists weren't being honest with us!"

Since the day of the Unleashing...
Rhea takes a step back in shock and to keep herself from falling backward. But a child would not lie about something like this. They couldn't both be, especially since the other was a truth-seeker as well.
"...He was known as the Thunderer Dragon prior to the Unleashing. A monk, of this very shrine." It's all she could do to lean against the books behind her and not slide down rather unseemingly. "That he still watches those under him... He hasn't changed at all."
"...He and Cyntia never did see eye to eye. I have no doubt there may be some truth in what he said. However, she was once a friend of mine, and does seem sincere in making this city livable again. Unless he refers to how another district has yet to open...?"

So the reason why Rhea stayed was because she was friends with the head scientist and despite the uneasiness of the guests, Cyntia was apparently trying to do good. Yu couldn't stay on one side or the other; both had good points but there was also bad. However, something was nagging at him...
"There was something else he said that I have to ask: the miasma had a chance of leaking into other worlds before we arrived. Is there still a chance it could happen and is that why we were brought here?"
no subject
"Why do you say 'was' when you talk about being friends with her? Aren't you friends anymore?" If she is sincere about fixing the city as Rhea says, why use past tense to describe their friendship? He feels like something is missing...
"Did what happened with the Unleashing cause you to stop being friends? Oh! And what Yu asked too!"

She did her best to right herself, but instead motions for the two to take a seat. With the topic shift, and her continued surprise, it was likely best for all of them to do so. They might be discussing things for a while. Sitting down behind her short desk, she answered.
"The chance was small, but the moment we realized that reaching across universal barriers was possible, one of my visions of a possible future entailed the miasma leaking through to these openings." She does not elaborate further on it for now, but continues on. "However, this is only a portion of the truth. After the Unleashing... all contact with the other cities were lost. Either they were all wiped out, or avoid this region due to the health concerns. As for my past friendship with Cyntia... let us simply say that time does not heal all wounds, young one."
no subject
"Call it optimism but I don't think the cities are gone, just lost a way to get here." It was quiet but they didn't know if they were destroyed or not. All they could do was hope.
"Is it alright to ask what happened between you two?"
To be fair, she didn't say the Unleashing was the reason. It could've been a contribution to it but not the exact reason.

When Yu asks his question, Diarmuid looks from his friend to Rhea. The boy had wanted more details to what Cynthia had done too, but he didn't feel like it was right to ask. That is why he doesn't say anything else. He will wait to see if she answers the question without adding anymore pressure to her.

"All relationships either grow one of two ways, young ones. They either become closer together, or grow apart. The latter is the case for myself and my childhood friend. I was raised to be the high priestess, and she denied any truths that she could not see with her own eyes. We disagreed over this, and in time, she denied any possibility that she could not explain with research and experimentation. Were it not proven that touch negated the effects of the miasma, we all would have perished by now."
Something that she was still sore, though her eyes betrayed something more - something she did not feel safe in admitting at this point.
