January Intro Log

Who: Everyone
Where: The Welcome Center
When: 12th December, early afternoon
Summary: The new arrivals, freshly pulled from their worlds or others, awaken in a strange place...
Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. NPC responses may be slow.

It's a shuddering breath, a sensation of being pulled to elsewhere and finding oneself pressed against something on the soft and some place cozy. However, before one can fully stir, there is and odd, warm stirring sensation that lifts you up from wherever you've been dropped, when you begin to drift off once more.

'I'm sorry for this... but we need your help.'

Yet the feeling -and the voice - pass quickly, and when you awaken, you begin to realize your surroundings. It's a small room with what some might recognize as something akin to a Far Eastern theme when it comes to decor, from the walls to the sofa (or bed) you find yourself on. Illumination is provided by carefully crafted lamps, and even a red candle flickering on a nearby desk. The doors are made from paper and wood, with a thin frame; through them it's easy to hear other people stirring, talking, or coming to.

You are not alone...

On a small table beside you, there rests a note atop a manilla envelope (that oddly enough is enscribed with your name). Unfolding the note will reveal some answers in the form of a letter addressed to all arrivals.

Inside the manilla envelope , you will find: a ring with a key and apartment number on it, some kind of cash card, a map and informational guide to the city, and a second letter folded neatly on the top.

Odd... Neither were written in your own language, and yet you find it easily understandable. Soon enough, if you don't make an exit on your own, there's a gentle knocking on the door as someone comes from downstairs to usher you along.

"Welcome to Saeng Seong! I know you must be confused or upset as to what's going on, but we promise to explain further once you've had a chance to stretch your legs!"

Whether you go downstairs immediately or linger a little longer, eventually you must come on down to leave the small space, and sooner rather than later would probably be better. You'll find yourself in a well-lit lobby, filled with comfortable-looking couches and chairs. Along one wall are refreshment tables, loaded with all sorts of warm and filling food and drink, including some you probably aren't familiar with. It's just as well they're in good supply, as rain is pouring outside with no sign of relenting. During this time of the year, it's definitely something to leave a chill in the bones. Perhaps picking up a rain coat by the desks on the other side of the room might be a good idea. Who knows? You may just find something suspiciously in your size!

Speaking of those desks, two ladies seem eager to answer any questions you may have, names and positions conveniently written on signs on their desk.

Irene, General Assistance
Andi, Technological Assistance

Outside, and through the heavy rain and translucent glass you can see a banner hanging from the tiled roof of the building across the street. The deep autumnal colors on it match the welcoming (though rather damp) atmosphere as the letters proclaim:

WELCOME TO SAENG SEONG
(ENJOY YOUR STAY!)

"Yes," Baymax replied simply to the question of whether he was a robot. "I was built by Tadashi Hamada at San Fransokyo Technical Institute. Then rebuilt by his brother, Hiro Hamada, after my original body was lost. Tadashi programmed me to heal the sick and injured."

"I have not met anyone by that name," Baymax said. "Is he also a bipedal turtle?" Because if he is, Baymax should totally scan him, so as to get a broader baseline for mutant turtle health.

"A medic huh? Cool..." Michelangelo said with a grin. He nodded at the question.

"Yeah! Donatello's my brother. I have three brothers and we're all turtles of the mutant ninja variety." He reached out curiously and poked at Baymax's 'belly'. "Wow, you're full of air! I've never seen anything like you before! Most robots I've seen or heard of are all armored and stuff..."

Baymax blinked. "No record of such a dramatic genetic mutation exists in my medical database," he said. Well, until now at least. "How did such a mutation occur?"

Baymax looks down at where Mikey poked him. "Tadashi believed that a non-threatening, huggable design would make me a better healthcare companion," he explained. "Hiro later created an armor upgrade for me. My armor was not brought here with me, however."

At the question, Mikey tilted his head slightly. "Me and my bro's started our lives as regular baby turtles in a shop. We were bought by a kid - and when he was waiting to cross the street, a truck swerved to avoid a blind guy in the road. A canister of this green glowing goo called 'mutagen' came out of the back of the truck and hit the bowl carrying us. We all got knocked down a sewer grate and got covered in the stuff. We were found by a rat named Splinter - who by the way - has a story all on his own - and he got covered in the goo too. We all mutated and changed into what we are today. None of us remember this, but Splinter had witnessed it and told us when we were older. He even still has the remains of the broken canister!"

Michelangelo spread his hands as if to say 'ta daaa', grinning. "Pretty crazy huh?"

At the mention of being a 'huggable design' - the turtle couldn't resist but lean into Baymax, blue eyes brightening. "Hey wow no kidding! I'd say you are the most cuddly robot ever!" He said, impressed. It was like a living air mattress or something! "Who's Tadashi and Hiro? Are they the ones who built you?"

Crazy indeed. "What was this 'mutagen' composed of?", Baymax asks. He's aware that Mikey might not know, but if a substance is capable of producing such dramatic mutations in ordinary animals, he should probably find out anything he could about its composition. If only to make sure no more was produced by accident.

Baymax allows Mikey to lean on him, easily supporting the turtle's weight. "Tadashi Hamada designed and built me," Baymax explained. "Hiro Hamada is his younger brother. Hiro created various armor upgrades for me, then rebuilt my body entirely to Tadashi's exact specifications after my original body was lost in the portal."

At the question concerning the mutagen, Mikey tilted his head slightly. "Huh...I actually don't know. I just know it's glowy and green. Donatello might know more about it though and could tell you if you meet him. He's the science-y one."

He gave Baymax an experimental squeeze. Definitely huggable and awesome. "Wow techno bro's huh? Sucks about your original body though. It got lost in a portal? That's harsh..."

'Glowy and green' covered far too many possibilities for any kind of analysis, but Baymax made note of it's appearance at least, in case he ever encountered any. "I will ask Donatello if I see him, then," Baymax said.

"Yes, Tadashi was highly intelligent and talented in the field of robotics, as is Hiro," Baymax said. Mikey might note the past tense when referring to Tadashi, there. "And it is alright. So long as my primary memory chip remains intact, my body can be repaired or rebuilt as needed."

Mikey did note the 'was' in reference to Tadashi, but it didn't fully register with him in the conversation. He stepped back from Baymax, his curiousity sated for now about how 'huggable' the robot really was. Needless to say he was impressed.

"Well that must be handy." He said, regarding the chip. "I'm sure there's lots of science types around here that could help you out if you need it."

Baymax was indeed very huggable yes. And would have likely hugged back if he'd thought that Mikey needed or wanted it. But since the hug was clearly just for experimental purposes, Baymax doesn't reciprocate this time.

"Yes, it is quite useful," he said. "And that is good. I will need to find someone with advanced knowledge of robotics to handle my maintenance and, if necessary, repairs."

"Awesome." Michelangelo nodded decisively. His speech pattern would be familiar to Baymax. It was somewhat like Fred back at the institute. "I'll give Donnie a heads up about you. You'll know him if you see him. He's got a purple bandanna." He pointed at his own orange one.

[personal profile] tadashiishere 2015-03-19 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Baymax nodded. "Yes," he said. "I imagine a bipedal turtle in a purple bandanna would be relatively easy to locate in a crowd." And pretty much only Baymax could say such a thing without the slightest hint of laughter in his voice.

"You remind me of my friend Fred in San Fransokyo," Baymax commented after a moment. "Your personalities and speech mannerisms are similar, and your appearance would suggest one of Fred's costumes."
pizzaninja: (Sense of Humour)

[personal profile] pizzaninja 2015-03-23 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Baymax wouldn't need to laugh even if he could. Mikey did it for him.

"True enough!" He agreed.

At the mention of Fred, Mikey looked a bit curious at that. "Really? Sounds like he'd be a fun guy to hang out with then. He wears costumes?" He paused, eyes widening. "Like a superhero?"

[personal profile] tadashiishere 2015-03-30 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Baymax nods. Fred had explained to him the concept of secret identities, but as Neither Fred nor any of his other friends seem to be present here he sees no harm in answering Mikey's question.

"Yes," Baymax says. "Fred and myself are both members of the 'Big Hero 6'. Though Fred also wears costumes in his position as the school mascot of San Fransokyo Technical Institute."
pizzaninja: (Here's Mikey!)

[personal profile] pizzaninja 2015-04-06 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Mikey stood back, impressed. "Big Hero 6 huh?" He said with a slow grin. "Oh maaan what I wouldn't give to be in a real super hero team!" Sure sometimes it was joked amongst his family that they were 'heroes in a half shell' - but they sure as heck weren't famous or in comics like real superheroes...

His grin turned impish. "Hey maybe if more of your friends show up we can make it Big Hero 7 huh? I got a hero persona too! The Turtle Titan!" He struck a heroic pose and couldn't help but wink.

[personal profile] tadashiishere 2015-04-07 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
The Big Hero 6 aren't in comics either that Baymax is aware of, though being unaware of Mikey's thoughts on the matter, he doesn't comment.

"The addition of a new member to the team is a possibility," Baymax says. "Though that is a decision that cannot be made arbitrarily. It would require the assent of all members of the team, lest it impact our overall effectiveness." Baymax has no problem with the idea, and he doubts that Fred or Honey lemon would mind either. Hiro and Wasabi he is less certain of, and Gogo... would likely be a hard sell.

"Where do you reside, when not here in Saeng Seong?", Baymax asks. Even assuming for a moment that they're from the same world and timeframe, simple geography would also be a factor in whether or not a team up could happen.
