Summary: Cu Chulainn wakes up from a long, long nap

1. Hospital (closed to Diarmuid)

Cu Chulainn woke up in an unfamiliar room, looking up at an unfamiliar ceiling, lying in an unfamiliar bed. Looking around, he saw clean white walls and other little white beds just like his. Doctors and nurses dressed in white costumes fluttered around, attending to the other patients.

Though the doctors and nurses seemed to be nice and polite, Cu Chulainn couldn't help but be scared. Especially since he didn't remember how he got sick or hurt enough to need to stay at the hospital. All he remembered was feeling very dizzy and tired...and then nothing.

"Brother?" He called out in a small voice. "Brother, are you here?"

2. District 7

Now sufficiently recovered from his coma, Cu Chulainn has wandered into District 7. Usually, he likes the animals of District 5 the best, but just for today, he wants to take a look at the "metal beasts" that the seventh district plays host to.

After gaping at the strange assortment of vehicles and parts being sold throughout the area, he finally settles at Goblin Motors Dealership. There, he finds an open-roofed sports car in the parking long and clambers on the hood. Then, he crawls over the window pane and dives head-first into the driver's seat.

He giggles as he spins the steering wheel. He doesn't know what it's for, but it seems very fun!

Diarmuid is dozing in a chair when his brother wakes up. Of course, he instantly opens his eyes when he hears Cu Chulainn's voice. It's been so long. So long! But now his brother is awake again. Finally!

He jumps out of the chair and rushes to his brother's bedside, "I'm here! You're finally awake. I've been so worried. You missed Christmas/Yule whatever holiday they want to call it! I have a present for you!"

"Brother!" Cu Chulainn embraces his brother as soon as Diarmuid comes close enough. He holds on to his brother as he listens to Diarmuid explain.

"Oh..." Diarmuid's answer doesn't make him any less worried. And now he's disappointed that he missed a holiday. He lets go of Diarmuid and hugs his knees. While he doesn't cry, his bottom lip wibbles.

However, knowing that his brother got him a present, he quickly perks up. "Really? What is it?"

"Don't cry, brother," Diarmuid gives Cu Chulainn another hug when he sees how close the other boy is to crying. "We can have a party of our own. I learned to make some cookies and other things while you were asleep. I will show you how to make them and everything!"

He jumps down from the bed and goes to his bag. Once there, he pulls a rather large box out of it and then climbs back up to the bed, holding the box out to his brother, "While you were sleeping, I got to be an adult for a while! I wish you could have been awake to go shopping with me, but I got this then. Open it and tell me what you think!"

When Cu Chulainn opens the box,, he will find it has a doll dressed like a knight in it. The doll is standing in a chariot that is being pulled by two big black horses.

Cu Chulainn quickly nods and hugs his brother back. "Yay! I wanna eat your cookies!"

His eyes go wide as he hears what his brother has to say. "You were an adult? What was it like? Were you tall? Did all the pretty girls like you? Did you get to fight monsters? Did you get new weapons?"

Before he gets any answers, he's too fascinated by his new present. He pulls back the lid and throws it aside, before reaching in the box to get his new toy. "Wow! This is awesome! Where did you get it?"

[smallspot]

"I learned to make some chocolate ones just for you! I know how much you like chocolate!"

When his brother starts asking all the questions about when he was an adult, Diarmuid can't help but giggle, "I didn't run into too many girls or monsters, and I didn't really get to fight either, but I did get to help people! I got really tall! No more being a small knight for me! I told everyone I would be big someday!"

"There is a toy store over in the 3rd District that I found! Do you really like it?" Diarmuid points at one of the horses, "This one reminds me of Blackie only all grown up. And the knight looks really brave like I know you will be once you grow up! I just had to get it for you."

[beforetights]

"Mmm." He licks his lips. Just the thought of chocolate cookies makes him drool.

"Wow, I wish I could've seen it! I bet you were the best big knight."

And he has to wonder...would his brother have given him a piggy-back ride as a big knight?

He giggles as he makes the little figure "gallop" across his bed. "It does look like me and Blackie. I'll ride her just like this when we go fight with monsters."

Still holding his toy, he throws his arms around his brother in a big hug. "Thank you, brother."

Diarmuid happily watches his brother play with the toy and then smiles when Cu Chulainn hugs him again. He's missed having his brother around so much. The apartment was so empty even with the puppies and Lir there to keep him company.

He rests his head on his brother's shoulder, "I wish you had been there to see me when I was big. I kept hoping you would wake up so I could give you a piggyback ride. You remember we talked about that a long time ago? Maybe the city will let me be big again so that I can give you a ride. I really wanted to!"

"I am glad you think it looks like you and Blackie too," he reaches out to give the Blackie horse a pat on the head. "We should go see her again when you have your strength back. I bet she missed you!"

[beforetights]

Cu Chulainn pats his brother's fluffy hair. "I hope so. Maybe the city will let me be big too, so I can give you a piggy back ride."

His eyes light up as he thinks of Blackie. "Let's go right now! I wanna see her!"

[smallspot]

"That would be fun! You should get a chance to be big too!" Diarmuid giggles when his brother pats him on the head. However, his expression becomes worried when his brother mentions leaving, "Are you sure you are strong enough to do that? Maybe we should take you home to recover and then we can go see her tomorrow..."

He will be very sad if his brother falls and gets hurt while they are out.

"I'll be fine!" He insists, though it's pretty obvious that he's bluffing. As soon as he turns to get out of bed, he gets stuck with dizziness and has to lie down again.

"...Maybe we should wait a few minutes, though."

[smallspot]

Diarmuid makes a small sound of worry when his brother starts to get up and seems so unsteady. Thankfully, Cu Chulainn is able to lay down without getting hurt. Once his brother is settled again, Diarmuid snuggles up against him.

"We can just talk for a while longer and then we can go! Do you want to hear about what I got for Christmas from the city?"

[beforetights]

"Okay."

He pouts and rolls over to snuggle closer with his brother. "Tell me about your Christmas."

[smallspot]

Diarmuid settles his arms around his brother and then answers the question, "I got two things! One is a really nice torc. It has birds on it! I am not sure why it was given to me. It's too big. It's still nice, but just too big. I wonder if I got it because I will get it when I am big sometime. They are important to our people, after all!"

"The second thing is my favorite! It's a book that has pictures of all of my friends in it. Even the ones who have left! Now I have something to look at it when I miss them. Isn't that neat? I can't want to show it to you so you can see some of our old friends again too!"

Fortuna is looking at the vehicles here. It will be a long while before she can afford one. But having a big truck to haul supplies back in would be all the handier for her needs. It would be even better if she could outfit it with a control rig, but they don't exist here. Maybe she could see if the Rangar could bring one from her world...

In any case, her reverie is interrupted by a child's giggling. She stoops down to see a familiar little face at the wheel of the sports car, and she can't help but grin.

"Hey there, little chummer. Haven't seen you in a while. What are you doing in there?"

Cu Chulainn raises his head to see the troll woman looming. She looks even taller from this angle.

"Lady Fortuna! Look, I'm playing with wheels. Don't you think it's funny? This car already has four wheels, but it's got another one inside. What does this wheel even do?"

[shadowsgambit]

"That wheel turns the other wheels. That's how you can control it."

Sorry, Cu. No pretty horses to work with on these.

[beforetights]

"Oh..." His eyes go wide, and he focuses intently on the steering wheel, giving it a careful turn.

"Hey, the other wheels aren't turning!"

[shadowsgambit]

"You wouldn't notice, you're not moving. I'd show you, but you can't really drive one of these without owning one."

Plus, she's not sure she wants to teach this kid too much about driving. He'd probably go and try it...

[beforetights]

"Really? Is it some sort of magic?"

He crawls around the seats of the car, trying to see if there's any magical markings or something similar.

"How do you own one?"

[shadowsgambit]

Okay, that's pretty cute. Worth a chuckle, at least.

"Nope, it's a machine. You have to buy one, and you're given the key to make it start when you do. You're too young, though. Where I'm from, minimum age is sixteen, and other places have it even higher. You've gotta be tall enough to see where you're going, after all."

[beforetights]

"A key? Is it a magic key? And they only give it to you when you grow up?"

He crosses his arms and pouts.

"No fair. I wanna grow up right now!"

[shadowsgambit]

"Not magic, just makes the machine start. It's so nobody can take it from you. But you know..." She leans on the car a bit, careful not to scratch it with one of her horns. Last thing she needs is someone getting on her case about that. "Don't worry about it. Growing up comes with a lot of drek that's just not fun, even if you're allowed to drive cars."

[beforetights]

"But it's supposed to be fun too. You get to fight to defend your home. And you get to go places where kids don't go. And you get to be really, really big!"

He holds his hands above his head as indication.

"Hey, did you see my brother when he was big?"

[shadowsgambit]

"Nope. Somehow, I doubt we would've recognized each other anyway." Considering she...effectively looked human. "But the thing is, being a kid is fun too. You don't want to grow up too fast, or, well, you'll miss it."

He scratches his head and thinks for a moment.

"Yeah, it is fun. Especially when nobody tells you what you have to do!"
