Event: Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons

Who: Everyone!
Where: One more city wide event, for good measure!
When: December 20th-22nd
Summary: The winter festivities get interrupted, with animated and angry snowmen on the prowl.
Warnings: Snowmen violence.

It's been a (relatively) calm few days of snowfall and winter celebration. The snow has settled over Saeng Seong like a fluffy white blanket, with more and more snowmen popping up as the days go by. It all looks quiet and serene.

Naturally, this can't last forever. And that stillness is fractured in the afternoon, with the appearance of odd dark stones placed on those snowmen that have been showing up. The peace breaks completely at sundown, when the snowmen lurch into motion, with moans and growls that sound a lot more at home in a zombie movie than a winter wonderland. Then again, these certainly don't LOOK like cheery snowmen, either. In fact, they look down right hostile. Especially when they pack more snow into themselves, and the cold air twists them into more sinister looking forms.

In fact, the only thing that gives them pause are some green eyes, peering out of different parts of the city, along with some mewing sounds. (And mewing that might be familiar, to some of the residents!) It's an odd contrast and thing for them to avoid, but avoid it they do. Which only serves to make them that much more violent when they DO find someone in the streets.

Uh oh...

A female voice reached Junpei's ears as he held the black talisman.

"Unfortunately, things are often not what they seem."

The source of the voice stood on a roof nearby: a tall red-clad warrior, spear at the ready. After a cautious look around from the high vantage point to make certain there were no more snow monsters nearby, she hopped from the roof to the ground with ease. As she approached the young man, it was evident by the marks on her armor that she'd been battling a few of them already.

"You appear to be skilled with fire magic," she remarked. "That will be indispensable against these foes should they continue to appear. It's a somewhat difficult for me to fight them on my own, so I would be glad to assist you if I can."
blazeoflife: (What the?)

"H-huh?!"

He... he wasn't expecting anyone to reply to that. Looking around him, he realised the voice was coming from ABOVE-- and looked up, to see...

Whoa. It was that rat chick he'd seen around town but was not sure how to approach without coming off like an asshole. H-how'd she get up there? His eyes widened as she jumped down effortlessly, like it was him jumping the last few stairs of the dorm (And sometimes he'd trip on his face, besides). Soo THAT'S how she did it. She was super proper speaking too...

Man, she was like straight out of Feudal Fantasy or something. Wait, okay enough daydreaming, the lady was talking to him.

"Uh, yeah. Fire magic's my specialty... I'm the only one from my group here that can use it."

He suspected Yu-san could if he was a 'Wild Card', like Minako was, but he couldn't be absolutely certain. He gave the spear user a smile, nodding his head at her words.

"Sure, let's work together! Two weapons are better than one in this case... I'm Junpei Iori, you?"

A pause, and he glanced over the marks on her armor, looking worried.

"You okay though? I regen health, but I don't know any healing spells..."

Maaan, where was Mitsuru-senpai and Akihiko-senpai when he needed them? And Junpei, stop using RPG terms when talking about fighting you're knocking on the fourth wall too much.

The way he said "his group" must have meant there were others with magic abilities here as well, which was reassuring. It meant more people could defend themselves, even if they didn't have the most effective kind of magic.

"Freya Crescent," she replied in greeting, "It's good to meet you, Junpei, though I wish it were under better circumstances." She brushed off his concerns over the scuffs on her armor with a shake of her head. "I haven't taken any major injuries, and I can draw health and magic from the enemy for either of us if need be. Are you fine as well?"

He didn't appear to be injured and did say he had a regen effect, but it was better to ask now while they had a tiny bit of reprieve.

"Nice to meet you too, Freya! And yeah, wish it wasn't during a freaking snow war."

Junpei gave the lady a smile, even if he looked a bit sheepish. It soon turned relieved at her assurance over her own health.

"Oh, phew! That's good. I got a buff spell that can up your defence too, if you'd want it."

He patted his evoker relieved he had it with him more than ever, before shaking his head.

"I'm fine! Trismegistus takes care of these guys before they can get close to me; and even when I am in close, I can handle a sword."

Like a baseball bat.

"Only wished I had some sort of multi-hit fire spell, but eh, you use what you can... Anyway, have you been able to figure out what the hell is causing these things?"

He looked down at the pierced stone on the ground, before deciding to lean down and pick the shards up. Maybe the rest of his team could look it over...

"Thank you, but it would be best to save your magic for your attacks. I will be fine." She had to assume Trismegistus was some kind of minor summon that he could control. The idea was impressive to her, but she wondered if the others he spoke of had similar beings they called. Perhaps it was more common in his world...

She nodded in response to his question. Thankfully she'd discovered that her intuition regarding the monsters' similarities to the sand golems of Cleyra was correct.

"I'm not certain of their origins, but I know those stones act as a core for the larger ones. Once they're destroyed, the golems are as well."
blazeoflife: (Pretty please?)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-01-16 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Golems? ...Shit, yeah, they are like Snow Golems, aren't they?!"

Junpei's played enough RPGs, he knows the score!

"But the little ones are just runts; easy to take out and not too dangerous if you got a weapon or somethin'. Even someone not super combat experienced would be alright... maybe."

Having collected the pieces, Junpei turned properly to the Dragoon.

"So uh... any ideas what to do next? I've just been keeping an eye out for friends or anyone in trouble."

That knowledge would do Junpei well if he ever got stranded on Gaia, that's for sure.

"As have I. I was helping a friend fight them, earlier, but we decided it was best to spread out and tell these monsters' weaknesses to everyone we could and help those who need it. The more that know how to defeat them, the more likely that all of us can get rid of them."

Just fighting everything off was an option, but Freya liked to have a little more of a plan than just plain brute force.

"How many have you fought so far? Have you found any others who've been fighting?"
blazeoflife: (That's no good...)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-01-30 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
It helps to be genre savvy, that's for sure. Though doing that 'Dah da da daaah, Junpei has leveled up!' got him some weird looks back home while chasing Shadows.

"That's a good point-- a friend of mine can do that, uh, use her powers to find out what an enemies' weakness is, I mean. I was looking for her-- and the rest of my team."

Pausing for a moment, Junpei counted on his fingers.

"Uh, I've taken care of a ton of the little ones and about... 4, 5 bigger ones?"

He hadn't seen anything bigger than the one he'd just taken care of...

"It sounds as if you're quite capable," she remarked. "But it is a good idea to try to find your allies. Do you have any idea where they might be?"

She could at least attempt to help him fight until he found his teammates before she departed again to make sure there were no others who needed help.
blazeoflife: (C'mon lemme explain)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-02-17 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't found them yet. With any luck, they might be back at the apartments..."

He glanced back towards the buildings, before looking over at Freya.

"I checked already, but maybe a double check would be a good idea too. Uh... d'you wanna come, or keep patrolin'?"

Maybe she could grab some food to eat or something before going out around town again? Fighting takes stamina, after all.

"I'll accompany you for now, until you can locate them."

Besides, fighting alongside others made it easier to take the golems down, and she'd been patrolling with the intention of finding people to help. Now that she found someone, she wanted to make sure he wouldn't have trouble finding his own allies.
blazeoflife: (Pretty please?)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-02-17 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright, let's head back then."

Giving a cursary glance around, Junpei motioned for Freya to follow him.

"So uh, Freya, where are you from?"

To say Junpei was curious about her and her abilities was an understatement.
dragoncrest: (silence)

Freya kept her own eyes and ears open as well, wary of any approaching snowmen.

"My world is called Gaia, but Burmecia is the land I call home," she explained. "Are you from Earth, as many of the others are?"
blazeoflife: (What the?)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-02-17 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Gaia, Burmecia? Maaaan, she sounded like she was right out of a video game! It was so freaking cool! Maybe one of those characters from the 'fantasy race' they always seemed to put in? But, hey, focus on the task at hand, Iori!

"Uh, yeah. Sorta weird a lot of us are all from there... But I'm from Japan, in particular."

Freya could probably tell that inspite of Junpei's talent with summoning, he held his sword rather awkwardly.

"What's your world like? Is there a lot of tech or anything, or do ya have a lot of magic instead?"

He supposed not, but one could never know for sure.

[personal profile] dragoncrest 2014-02-17 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
It was clear that while the young man had seen battles, he might not have exactly been trained for them... all the more reason for her to accompany him.

"We don't have the sort of technology that there is here, like the network devices, but we do have airships and railcars. But I would say that magic is much more common."

"Have you found many others from Japan, other than those you knew from home?" It couldn't hurt to satisfy her curiosity in the meantime...
blazeoflife: (Hmm really?)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-02-23 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it had worked well enough fighting off an Avatar of Death itself, so that's something, right?

"Airships?! Aw man, that sounds awesome!"

He's picturing those flying wooden ships from the games he's played... can you see the stars in his eyes?

"Where I'm from-- magic is super rare. It's like, not even considered a real thing. So having powers like this is pretty... out there. Most people wouldn't believe ya."

At her question, it gave Junpei pause. Who had he met?

"Uh, yeah; there's a few of us from a smaller country town that we didn't know were like us. And there's a few others who's names sounds like they're from home, but I dunno if we're from the exact same world. What about you...?"
dragoncrest: (serenity)

[personal profile] dragoncrest 2014-02-24 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"It always seems so strange to me to hear of worlds where magic is uncommon or nonexistent," she remarked. "But I haven't met anyone from my world, that I'm aware. Several whose worlds are somewhat similar, but none of them have heard of my continent, let alone my homeland of Burmecia."

The Dragon Knight gave another careful look around, hoping to hear if any golems approached. She didn't hear or see anything yet, but she didn't imagine they had all disappeared or been defeated just yet.

"I've only ridden on an airship once, but the sight that comes with it is worth seeing. Does your world not have air travel?"
blazeoflife: (Heeeey~!)

[personal profile] blazeoflife 2014-03-11 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, a little less than a year ago I would've thought magic was totally impossible in my world, but well... things can change quick, y'know? And sorry you haven't met anyone you know here..."

At Freya's question, Junpei shook his head, somewhat forgetting they were more or less in a battlezone.

"Nah, we have something called 'Planes'! They're these huge metal tubes with seats inside them and big huge wings-- when they get to a certain speed they can actually launch themselves into the air and go up super high... which I guess when you think about it is pretty cool..."
