Who: Everyone Where: Mostly Districts 2 and 3 When: 20th September Summary: In light of the new district reopening, there's still a lot to do! This log is open to everyone if they want to see what else is going on in the city, or help with some important tasks. Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. SOME NPC RESPONSES WILL BE SLOW UNTIL THE ONE WHO PLAYS THEM IS PRESENT. I'm only happy when it rains... Some of the natives have been busy. There's a little stand set up in the plaza that wasn't there before. They have minions, too: people with clipboards are assaulting recent arrivals on the street with requests. It seems that most of the employees are helping with the district reopening, and that means everyone else is incredibly understaffed. But wait! Don't walk away! If your character helps with some of the chores around the city, they'll get a little money added to their stipend, as well as a coupon to the new store opening today in District 3. District 2 Residents will be asked to help hang up tiny twinkling lights in the trees lining the streets, nothing so fancy as during the summer festival but something with lasting power throughout the oncoming rainfall. There are water fountains that need to be insulated, gigantic mountains of leaves that should be disposed of, and plants requiring trimming. District 3 In addition to the winterization chores going on in the second district, the shopping district has their own problems to take care of. Large potted plants need to be moved inside-- that's a job for physically fit characters-- and little tents need to be taken down. Oh, and they need lights in the trees here, too. New Store There is a lot of excitable chattering surrounding the new store on the main shopping street. The sign is currently covered in plastic and unreadable. Boxes Near the water, groups of trees, or small parks, characters might stumble upon a group of canvas-covered boxes and someone desperately looking for help with them. There are a lot, after all. YOU MAY NOW REPLY. Thank you for your patience! NPCs will pop into the last two sections. Otherwise, comment and threadjack at will.

[WHAT COULD IT BE? Why are there fifty people crowded around the door?

Well, what are you waiting for? The posted hours are clearly visible and the sign says OPEN.]

[What's this? A new store? America walks over to take a better look at this place.

Please be a hamburger joint! PLEASE BE A HAMBURGER JOINT!]

[The store name is covered and the windows are hard to peek through due to the amount of people. He should probably go inside.]

[He pushes his way through the crowd and manages to slip in through the door. He blinks a couple times as his eyes adjust to the lighting change. What is this place? He sniffs the air just in case there's a whiff of something tasty to be discovered.]

[The scent attacking his nose is that of saltwater. He landed in front of a miniature coral reef display.

America is a little taller than the other kids ransacking the shop, so he can see cat and dog food lining a wall, as well as an aisle of pet toys. There is more.

But there are no hamburgers. Not presently, anyway.]

[Nope. Not the smell he was hoping for. Maybe if he was an animal the pet food would have been attractive. America gives a little sigh of disappointment, but pet stores are always fun and he definitely likes animals. He walks further inside.

Remembering previous questions brought up by one of the new arrivals, this would be a good chance to look at the local animal life. Would there be alien fish? Or types he could find back home? He looks around for price signs that might name the fish species or any obvious differences in the fish he can manage to see past the crowds of excited children.]

[The fish seem rather exotic, at least the saltwater ones. The freshwater fish are more akin to what you'd see in a normal pet store. In one tank, there are fancy flame-colored goldfish that give off a flickering, candle-like glow.]

[The answer seems to be somewhere between the two ideas he had- some fish look familiar like those on Earth, others are unfamiliar species.

When he see s the glowing goldfish he has to take a closer look.]

Whoa.... [He echoes the excitement and awe of the children around him.] Those are the coolest goldfish ever.

[Watching the fish swim around makes him think of Whale back home and he's struck by a little twinge of sadness. It had been three months now since he was taken from home. Tony would take care of Whale but still he really missed them.

America stood straight and looked around for the nearest clerk.]

Excuse me! How much are the glowing goldfish over there?

[The nearest clerk doesn't look too busy. She's happy enough to field questions.]

Oh, those? They're ten won each.

[Not cheep for goldfish but considering they glow understandable. America tries to talk himself out of the idea, but with the opening sale sign right next to the shelf of fish bowls his resolve quickly weakens.]

Uh I'd like to get a couple of them- though I'll need the bowl and food and stuff too.

[He doesn't care if they're male or female. He already knows he's probably going to name them Tony 2 and Whale 2.]

[The bad thing about being a small boy is that fifty people crowded around something makes it really hard to see. The good thing about being a small boy is that it makes it easy to slip between those fifty people, which is exactly what Diarmuid does whenever he spots an opening. Soon enough he manages to get to the front door and slip inside the new store.

He can't wait to see what all the fuss is about!]

[The door jingles as the boy slips inside. He's greeted by a gigantic saltwater fish tank display, complete with coral and brightly-colored fish. There are a few shelves full of dog and cat toys visible from the door.

A few people bustle around the nearby counter, making last minute preparations for the opening of the store.]

[Diarmuid's eyes never make it to the shelves with the cat and dog toys. The fish tank grabs his attention that completely. It's so big and colorful and...

..and who knew there was magic strong enough to let a person have a pond in a clear box like that!

After a short time, he inches slowly forward and reaches out to touch the side of the tank. That's certainly not asking for trouble, now is it?]

[Not at all! A blue fish with a funny little beak follows his fingers, swimming just out of his reach behind the glass.]

[A soft sound that is a mixture of wonder and delight slips from Diarmuid's mouth as the fish follows his fingers. It's so bright and pretty!

There aren't any fish like this at home!

He leans closer to the tank--almost pressing his face against it--trying to get a better look at the fish and any of the others that might be nearby.]

[A school of tiny red fish pass by his nose. There are a few quarter-sized fish. Some have zebra stripes and an arrowhead shape. A couple more are exotic, round and fancy with their own luminescence.]

[Diarmuid could probably spend the whole day just looking at the fish considering there seem to be so many different kinds in just one place, but after gazing at them for a few more moments he turns to look at the rest of the store.

If he is going to tell his friend, Cu Chulainn, about the store he needs to have looked at more than just one corner of it! Besides, he can't wait to see what other animals are here.]

[Cu Chulainn stares at the strange store for a long time before he slowly, carefully, takes a step in.]

Hello...?

[The door jingles. A woman with a lanyard greets the kid.]

Hello! And welcome! Can I help you with something?

[Her arms are full of dog toys, rubber balls and fake chickens, things like that. There are fish tanks near the entrance, brightly-lit and colorful.]

[He looks around the store and then at the woman.]

Yes, please. Can you tell me what this place is? And what's that chicken doll for?

This is a pet store. You can find just about anything to help care for a pet here-- food, toys, bedding, even little costumes.

[She squeaks the chicken.]

It's a dog toy. They really like chewing on these and playing tug with them.

[He giggles and claps his hands.]

Oh, it's nice! I wish I had a pet I could buy things for now!
