Who: Everyone Where: Mostly Districts 2 and 3 When: 20th September Summary: In light of the new district reopening, there's still a lot to do! This log is open to everyone if they want to see what else is going on in the city, or help with some important tasks. Warnings: Inbox death may occur. System overload at own risk. SOME NPC RESPONSES WILL BE SLOW UNTIL THE ONE WHO PLAYS THEM IS PRESENT.
I'm only happy when it rains...
Some of the natives have been busy. There's a little stand set up in the plaza that wasn't there before. They have minions, too: people with clipboards are assaulting recent arrivals on the street with requests. It seems that most of the employees are helping with the district reopening, and that means everyone else is incredibly understaffed.
But wait! Don't walk away! If your character helps with some of the chores around the city, they'll get a little money added to their stipend, as well as a coupon to the new store opening today in District 3.
District 2 Residents will be asked to help hang up tiny twinkling lights in the trees lining the streets, nothing so fancy as during the summer festival but something with lasting power throughout the oncoming rainfall. There are water fountains that need to be insulated, gigantic mountains of leaves that should be disposed of, and plants requiring trimming.
District 3 In addition to the winterization chores going on in the second district, the shopping district has their own problems to take care of. Large potted plants need to be moved inside-- that's a job for physically fit characters-- and little tents need to be taken down. Oh, and they need lights in the trees here, too.
New Store There is a lot of excitable chattering surrounding the new store on the main shopping street. The sign is currently covered in plastic and unreadable.
Boxes Near the water, groups of trees, or small parks, characters might stumble upon a group of canvas-covered boxes and someone desperately looking for help with them. There are a lot, after all.
YOU MAY NOW REPLY. Thank you for your patience!
NPCs will pop into the last two sections. Otherwise, comment and threadjack at will.

That's because you kind of did.
[She almost muttered it, almost, not looking him in the eye.]
That's my power. I'm a daughter of Aphrodite. It's called charmspeak- but I wasn't doing it on purpose! [And she's mildly frustrated that she apparently can't control it now- so she's picking her words cautiously.]
It's been a while since I touched someone. I guess my powers are doing that destabilizing thing they told us about. I'm sorry.

[She's not sure if she can say it's okay, and be truthful about it. (Even if seeing Robin alright eased that initial panic...And dropping him into the leaves WAS pretty satisfying.) M'gann hops off the roof and floats down the rest of the way, her feet rustling against a few stray leaves when she reaches the ground.]
"It didn't hurt anyone, at least? I didn't even know you had powers, or that you were a...A what you just said."
[She even holds out a hand as she says that. Because IF her powers are on the fritz, physical contact should help.]
"If they're slipping out of your control, then yes...Contact would be good."
[She also glances back at Robin as she speaks, and sends out a brief tendril of thought and concern towards him; a quiet, telepathic 'you okay?']

[Forgive him if the pitch on that slowly rises. Also that he doesn't answer M'gann instantly.
Of course, Greek gods are not uncommon things. Atlanteans and Amazons both believe in them, and he knows from Diana that they're alive and well, but--]
So you're a... what's the term? Half-goddess? Demi-goddess?
I don't... remember Aphrodite having that power.
[Oh yeah, speaking of powers. He mentally puffs himself up, trying to project calm and a little bit of arrogance.
The words, less so.]
Fine. I've taken worse falls than that.
Hey, maybe I even learned something.

I don't like using it, and people tend to look at you differently once they find out.
[Not without reason, she knows, but she still doesn't like advertising it.
She regards M'gann's hand and feels a mix of guilt and gratitude, then takes it as well as a small, short breath. Already she feels the difference. There's a low- sheepish sounding "Thanks." that follows.
Yeah. Visibly relaxing. Withdrawal sucks. This by comparison totally doesn't. Feeling better the longer the contact goes on.
Robin's response nearly made her roll her eyes, more because it had basically reminded her of her own and Leo's responses after she'd been claimed, too. Piper? You mean the tomboy that was trying to bring flannel jackets back in style, the one who used a pair of scissors to cut her own hair, who spent months at a wilderness camp for stealing a car- THAT Piper, a daughter of the goddess of beauty and love?? She hadn't been able to shake the nickname "beauty queen" from him after that, either.
Yeah.] Demigoddess, yes. [Her neck and face feel a little warm. Even in a group of three she doesn't like being the center of attention or conversational focus. She owes an explanation though.]
Well I don't remember anything about being able to speak perfect French and reading ancient Greek being any of her powers either, but I got that from her, too. With her it's not so much like... a power. It's just... the way she is. It's just the way she talks. [A light shrug.]

[Now that she's got that confirmed, back to focusing on Piper. And trying really hard not to stare, but this is all quite interesting! Her own experience with Earth's god-like figures is...Pretty lacking, really. She knows about them mainly through hearing about Wonder Woman and a small bit of western culture osmosis...And that's about it. Her own pantheon, she's much more versed in.]
"I've never actually met a Demigoddess before...I don't think Wonderwoman quite counts, either."
[She can at least try to make polite conversation, though.]
"And I...I'm not entirely clear on all those...They are Greek, aren't they? But it doesn't seem so bad?"
[Maybe? Possibly? When it's not being used to accidentally get people to walk off roofs? She's trying to say something to try and relax the mood.]
no subject
[He didn't want to think about it that much, either. His own experiences with religion were distant nowadays, but even he was raised Christian and accepting the Greek Pantheon still existed had been a challenge. He tried not to think about it too much.]
How does that work? Not that I'm an expert in Frankish linguistics, but Aphrodite's heyday pre-dated Frankish linguistics in general. We're talking Asterix and the Gauls here.
[French comic book. Look it up.]

[Piper's face. It is getting a little hot again.
She started to feel that usual uneasy feeling that she sometimes got being the center of attention. Of course right now it's more to do with the fact that she's talking about something that she's- by all means rather shame-faced about- how she nearly talked a boy off a roof and not in the good way -but point stands. She took a second to collect herself and steel her nerves again, then went on.
They aren't her camp-mates, cabin-mates, or quest-mates but at least she isn't talking to eidolons or a crowd of strangers. It's just two people.]
Because it's the language of love. All members of the Aphrodite cabin can speak French. I'm not sure about the technicalities of how it works, it just... does.
no subject
[M'gann works on impressing that; if she says it with enough conviction, it WILL be accepted as truth...Right? And to back it up, she gives Piper's hand another squeeze. And nods her head to the rest of that.]
"I...Think I've heard that in movies, before? And television. So," [So that means it must be true! Though she already knows better than to voice that, or even acknowledge the thought.] "So it sort of makes sense."
no subject
[What she said. Admittedly, the enthusiasm isn't there, but it's sincere, and he looks at her with a bit of wonder.]
Just... ask for a hand if you need it?
[And then he glances at M'gann, lifting a brow over his sunglasses. Luckily, she can't see him roll his eyes.]
Do you speak Spanish, too? Latin lovers, that's another stereotype.
Is it just French French, or can you get along in Quebec, too?
no subject
No, I really didn't. I swear that wasn't intentional. [Then feeling appropriately chastised (more by the circumstance than anything they've said)-] Sorry, I will. I just didn't realize it start so soon.
[Not making that mistake again, but she is gonna roll her eyes (right back) at Rob here.]
No, I have to study Spanish like everyone else. [Though having Leo around kind of negated the need for that from time to time.] And I don't speak any Italian, before you ask. [Not one THAT'S AMORE joke, Dick, not one.]
And I guess both. I was listening to a- uh... [The pause is very brief as she flashes a glance to both of them. Given how they've taken to the rest she sees no need to specify who she was listening to.] Quebec native when I found out I could understand and speak it.
