Knights, Ninjas, and Beyond
Who: Donatello, Diarmuid, and whoever else shows up. (You?)
Where: The park in District 4
When: September 13th, mid-morning
Summary:Donatello and Diarmuid run into each other at the park.
Warnings: Medieval fighting styles?
The novelty of being able to just walk around in broad daylight to get some fresh air never quite wears off, no matter how many places Donatello goes to that allow him the privilege. That's probably why he's training in the park rather than in his apartment. That and because the apartment still smells like sulfur from when he knocked over a test tube last time he tried to do his staff kata in there.
So here he is, by the pond, whirling a stick around him in complex forms and shouting.

It says a lot about Donatello that his first (rapidly quashed) instinct upon hearing Diarmuid's love of height is to surprise him with a jetpack at some future time. He smiles. "Fly as in jumping like I just did or fly as in literally flying?" he asks.
no subject
And even more interesting than talking about something new? Talking about being up high!
"Both! Anything that will get me in the air. I would love to get to fly for real sometime."
no subject
Donatello grins. "You should ask Blades to give you a ride sometime."
no subject
"Who is Blades? I don't know anyone by that name. Can he fly?"
no subject
"He's one of the Cybertronians. He turns into a flying machine."
no subject
The boy claps his hands excitedly and somewhat unexpectedly when Donatello mentions 'Cybertronians.' Even though it is a big word, it is one Diarmuid knows well, "Oh! So he is like Krok! Do you know Krok? He is a Cyber-tron-ian too!"
Hey, what do you know? He almost got it all out at once this time...
no subject
"I haven't met Krok. Does he turn into a crocodile?" It's an obvious question, from the data he has. Blades turns into a helicopter, after all.
no subject
Well, it could be, but it certainly would be a strange one...
"I should ask him the next time I see him. He's been having a hard time. Someone was hurting him and his friends."
no subject
"What? What's going on? Who got hurt?"
no subject
"Someone was messing with the memories of Krok and his friends. They were making them forget each other! There might be more, but I know he didn't tell me a lot of the details," Diarmuid's expression saddens. "I am just a kid so there wasn't a lot I could do..."
no subject
"Who's messing with their memories? Why? That's awful!" The turtle squats down on his haunches to be on Diarmuid's eye-level as they converse, stowing his staff on his back, sparring temporarily forgotten.
"Never think there's nothing you can do just because you're young. There's always something you can do to contribute, even if it's only in a small way."
no subject
The boy looks down at the ground and sighs, "I know. Steve says that too, but it's hard when my friends are sad. All I want to do is make them feel better, but sometimes I can't do it no matter how hard I try."
no subject
He sits cross-legged in the grass, chin in his hands. "Plus, no matter how old you get, there's going to always be either someone there who's more mature than you to make you feel like an inadequate little kid, or worse no-one like that there, and then you feel like you have to be the responsible grown-up and be the one to take care of everyone."
no subject
Optimism and idealism. He's full of them...
no subject
"Diarmuid, you've got a good heart. One day, you might save the world. Or, um, a world. Or the whole multiverse, I dunno. But even the greatest hero, with the most magical sword, the most loyal companions, and the fastest horse, can't change the world. You can't make everything right for all the people you meet. There are always going to be problems. Problems like there being more than enough food to go around, but some people not having any. Problems a hero can't fix without becoming a villain."
no subject
"That's not right. There is always an honorable way to solve problems like that. It might be hard or take a long time, but as long as you don't give up, you will find a way. If you have to become a bad guy to do a good thing, it's not a good thing anymore!" He is very insistent about this, "Yes, there are always new problems to solve. That is why the world always will need heroes. What one hero can't solve, another can!"
no subject
He gives a sad smile. "I guess you're right. Though some problems probably take a whole lot of people deciding to be heroes in a small way, working together."
no subject
Or, at least, he knows as well as any child his age can.
He starts to say something else and then Grey, who has been silent for a while, whines and draws his attention, "Oh! I bet Grey is getting hungry. I probably should take him home." The boy turns back to Donatello and gives him a big smile, "Can we practice and talk again soon? I really had fun!"
no subject
"Well, we wouldn't want to neglect this guy!" he says, reaching out to scratch the puppy behind the ears. "Sure, I'd like that!"
no subject
Diarmuid turns and starts out of the park. Grey gives Donatello a friendly bark and then runs after his owner.
