Bitty's First Shopping Trip and Assorted Other Adventures
Who: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne (
smallspot ) and anyone who wants to run into a cute little kid.
Where: District 3 Exploration Prompt: Near the entry to District 3 and then the district itself, Shopping Trip Prompts: in/around Room 2-17 Building 1 and a clothing store in District 3, and Blackout Prompt: in front of Building 1.
When: District 3 Exploration Prompt: around July 2, Shopping Trip Prompts: around July 7th, Blackout Prompt: July 10th
Format: Any
Summary: During the Reignition event, Diarmuid and Legolas talked about getting a group together to go and explore the 3rd District. Now that a few days have passed and everything seems to be working in the district it's time for anyone who he might have invited to come and go exploring! A few days later, Diarmuid decides he is going to show everyone how much of a brave knight he is and go shopping in the district all by himself. Only...that's a long trip for a small boy to make all alone. Maybe someone would care to join him? Finally, the little guy does some star-gazing late during the blackout on July 10th.
Warnings: Cuteness? Random acts of hugging?
OOC Note: Anyone who would like to come join in the exploration is welcome to! This includes anyone who might wander into the group as it is assembling in front of the district. Consider it a bit of a mini mingle prompt. I will set up a separate division on the log so we can keep everything from that prompt together.
Divisions up! Please post responses to the exploration prompt under one of the two headings. All other prompt responses can be made just as new comments. Thanks everyone!
In Front of District 3/District 3
Diarmuid skips happily toward the bridge that leads into the section of District 3 that holds all the shops. It seems like it has taken him forever to get here because the last time he'd come, he'd come with his friend and keeping the other boy focused had distracted him from the length of the trip. Now, he is by himself and his excitement about meeting with everyone to go explore is just making the trip seem like it's taking forever.
Maybe he should have found Legolas or someone else to make the trip with...
The boy shrugs, swinging his arms happily and giggling as the bridge finally comes into sight. He can't wait to go exploring with everyone! Last time he had gone exploring he had found out what candy was. Just think of all the other new stuff that is probably just waiting to be discovered!

Room 2-17, Building 1
Even though he has been told that the room is his and no one will come into it without him, the first thing that Diarmuid does when he gets up every morning is fold his blanket and cloak and leave them on the corner of the bed with his few other belongings so that they are out of the way. Since there really hasn't been any need to use his cloak for its intended purpose, the boy has been using it and his blanket to curl up in when he sleeps since they still smell like home even if that smell is rapidly fading.
Considering the fact that a small boy lives in this room, it is remarkably neat. Part of that is because he doesn't often stay here. In fact, a lot of the time he stays with the adults who have been watching out for him though sometimes they stay here and help him clean up. However, the main reason things are so neat is that he still doesn't know what everything in the room is or does and that keeps him from messing with things. Why fiddle with things when he doesn't know what will happen? Besides, everything has been given to him by the people who brought him here. It would be bad if he broke anything.
The dark-haired boy finishes tidying up his stuff and then double checks to make sure he has his key and money card with him. Usually he goes out with an adult, but after exploring the 3rd District a few days ago with everyone the boy feels brave enough to go on a shopping trip all by himself. He's a knight after all and knights take care of themselves. He is going to get some new clothes since the ones he arrived in are starting to wear thin and a pouch to keep his key and money card in so he doesn't lose one.
He's probably lucky he hasn't done that already.
"I think that is everything! Shall we go?" Diarmuid turns his head toward the small blue and green butterfly that is perched on a nearby chair. It might be odd that he talks to it since it can't talk back, but the butterfly is like a friend to him. His father made it and ever since then, the butterfly has always been with him. Even now when everything else has been taken away from him, the butterfly is still there and so his father is also still with him in some little way
While Diarmuid doesn't know it, his father magically made the butterfly out of a small part of his love for his son and a greater part of said boy's innocence. As a result, Diarmuid's father is always with him in a much more literally way than he can even imagine.
As if to answer yes to the question, the butterfly launches into the air and lands on his shoulder. The small boy giggles and then starts toward the door to his room. He pauses as he reaches it, though, remembering how every time he has opened it he has seen something new, weird, or scary out there. It's why when he goes places he usually waits until Legolas or Auron or someone else can go with him.
Still, if he doesn't open the door, he can't finish his task, so after a moment and a deep breath, he pulls the door open and heads out into the hallway. If he knew how to write, he would leave a note on his door in case someone comes looking for him, but since he can't all he can do is hope no one worries too much about him while he is off on his adventure.
A Clothing Shop in District Three
Diarmuid finally reaches his destination late in the afternoon, though now that he is at the clothing store all he can do is stand there and look around in awe. There are so many pretty things, but none of it is anything like what he is used to wearing. Where does he start looking? And what can he get with the money that is on his card? He only barely understands how paying with money works and has no idea how much anything is worth.
However just getting here has been a big adventure for him and he's starting to get tired. Not to mention he's hungry, but he has no idea where to get food in this area. Suddenly, all of his energy seems to fade away and Diarmuid finds himself leaning against a nearby wall for a moment before sliding down to sit against it. He's come so far, but now he's starting to reach his limit and he still needs to go back home. What does he do now?
He shouldn't take a nap in the middle of an adventure but suddenly the idea is very tempting...
Building 1, Late During the Blackout on July 10th
Children are generally afraid of the dark. Children who grow up used to the light that is. But while Diarmuid has been taught to be wary of dark places because of the Fae creatures and spirits that might be lurking in them, he has no fear of the dark.
The fact that electicity doesn't exist in his time and that having so much light on at night is new to him might also have something to do with that.
Since he has no fear of the dark, Diarmuid is sitting off to the side of Building 1 and watching the stars. They are usually really hard to see with the lights on, but with them off he can see them so much better. Even if they aren't the stars he's used to seeing, they still reminds him of home.
And that is comforting.

Got this from Megatron himself. [He brushes one thumb over it--the Crystal City medics had kept it intact.]
It's made from metal from my spark chamber. [It had hurt, but yeah, rarr he was just that tough.]
Hnh thought you knights didn't like me or anything about me.
no subject
[The boy looks even more curious if that is possible and his next words are kind of distracted. He seems much more interested in the marking than Deadlock's question.]
If you don't let my friend get hurt, I don't have any reason to dislike you...
Will you bend down so I can see it better?
no subject
[He taps himself on the chassis, below his faction symbol.] Think that keeps you alive.
Megatron's our leader. [DUH. He rolls his optics, but kneels down. Hey, he's a little vain and this is about the only thing he's got to show off.]
Look. I'm not going to let the blue kid get hurt, okay?
[Seriously. Just don't cry again.]
no subject
At least, he hugs what he can reach...]
Please take good care of him! He really likes you and I really like him!
no subject
[He stiffens under the touch, because human. Touching him. Deadlock is trying to be a No Hug Zone and he is really messing that up.]
Yeah. Uh. Sure.
[...help?]
no subject
Thank you!
[The boy gives him another squeeze and then steps away from the hug. He does pause, however, to put a hand on the symbol on Deadlock's chest.]
Your mark is a good one. It suits you. You do it honor.
[Even if he's not sure if he likes Decepticons yet...]
no subject
[As long as they never speak of this hugging thing again.]
....thanks.
[He is so confused right now. ]
no subject
You're welcome!
[The boy bows to Deadlock and the looks up past him and back at the stars.]
Will you sit down and watch the stars with me? It is more fun to watch stars with friends than alone!
no subject
What is with you and Wing and fraggin' watching stars?
[Grumble grumble, but he's moving, settling down next to the wall. ]
What's so fun about it, anyway?
no subject
[Diarmuid gives Deadlock a puzzled look before turning his gaze back out to the stars. As he speaks, he slides closer to him.]
I guess they are something to dream about too! What is out there? Are there other people like us? Or maybe other people a lot different from us?
omg sorry I dropped off the face of everything
[Deadlock has priorities!]
Hnh. Lot of people different. Not for long, though.
Welcome back! And no worries. It happens!
No, no, you can't eat it... Well, father says that stuff that make us happy like music and pretty things feed the soul. Does that count?
[His confusion is replaced with excitement as Deadlock continues talking.]
Have you been out in the stars? Did you like it? Was it fun?
no subject
[There may be an optic roll in here.]
You sound like Wing.
[He shifts his shoulders back against the wall.]
'course I have. Have to go where the Autobots run and hide to fight them. Wasn't fun. It's war.
no subject
You make it sound like a bad thing. I like Lord Wing! He's nice and you should be nice to him. He really likes you!
[His pout deepens when Deadlock mentions the war. He knows wars are necessary sometimes, but...]
Isn't there another way? Besides fighting? Can't you talk instead?
no subject
[Wing probably liked that little honorific thing. ]
[But....'Scuse him while he recovers from that brain breaking news.]
Right. That's why he kept me hostage in his stupid city. And why he's...wherever the frag he is.
Talk? You can't talk to them. They wanted to let us starve, so we'd be quiet and out of their way.
no subject
Are you sure he was keeping you hostage? He's a knight and knights wouldn't do that! Maybe he was just trying to protect you. I bet that was it! Knights always take care of those they care about!
He was asking about you too. He wants to see you! You should go see him soon.
Why would they want you to starve? That isn't nice. I bet it was a mistake. Someone just didn't understand. That is why you should talk!
no subject
[Which was unfair, also. In case you're keeping score.]
If he wants to see me, he knows where I live.
[Huffity huff.]
no subject
[The boy falls silent for a moment as if pondering something, before his expression brightens.]
Why is that bad? He just wanted you to be a better fighter than him! Lord Wing was making you stronger. That is a good thing. You should be honored he liked you so much he wanted you to be as strong as you could be before you left!
[
Pssshh...unfair is an excuse for the weak, Deadlock...]Are you sure he knows where you live? Does he maybe think you don't want him there? Have you been grumpy to him lately?
no subject
It was bad because he had centuries of experience and I had none. There was no training. Just...throwing me across the room.
[And taunting. Also taunting.]
It was a trap: he wanted to keep me there. Thought I'd see how amazing his stupid city was and not want to leave.
[
oh buuuuurn!!]Like he's ever listened to what I want before.
[Grumpy? Deadlock's grumpy to everyone, so chances are...yes.]
no subject
[Wing's, duh... I mean...]
[Diarmuid stands up and looks up at Deadlock. He actually shakes his finger at him for a moment before stopping.]
Just because he had a lot of experience doesn't mean he knows how to be a good teacher. He was trying. The least you could do is to try and learn back.
And did you ever try to see why he liked the city so much? There must have been a reason if he liked it so much he wanted to share it with you. Maybe you don't like the same things as him, but that doesn't make what he likes any less valuable!
I don't know if he didn't listen to you much, but it sounds like you don't listen to him much either.
[
So take that Mr. Grumpy.]no subject
[But he's never been yelled at by someone he could step on. New experience. He's pretty sure he doesn't like it.]
I was trying! You think I wanted to stay there?
[He tries to shrug, but yeah. Little kid, yelling at him. Kind of throws his scowl off balance.]
H-his...the whole city. They ran from the war. They didn't want to make things better for everyone, just themselves.
[See? Listen to him! He's got a point! Kind of!] Besides. I don't listen to cowards.
no subject
Lord Wing isn't a coward. He just fights differently from you! Fighting might be necessary, but it doesn't mean it is the only way to fix things!
[He looks up at Deadlock.]
He likes you even if you are grumpy a lot! You shouldn't say bad things about him. It's mean! At this rate, I am going to start thinking all Decepticons are meanie heads.
no subject
[At least Dai Atlas sure had that act down.]
He doesn't....like...me? [Does he? Fraggin' weird jet. No reason for him to like Deadlock, anyway. ] Jets are crazy
no subject
[The boy's voice is very confident.]
Just because you won't believe me doesn't mean it's not true!
[He pauses a moment and then gives Deadlock a curious look.]
What's a jet? I thought he was a Cy-Cyber--Cybertrunian!
[He's going to be fighting that word forever...]
no subject
[But. It would explain a lot. The bringing him energon, the talking to him, all of that. Deadlock doesn't say that, of course, but his face looks...confused.]
You don't know what a jet is? [Hey, Deadlock has no education and even he knows that!] It's a thing that flies.
Hnf. Sure if you asked him he'd take you flying.
