Bitty's First Shopping Trip and Assorted Other Adventures
Who: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne (
smallspot ) and anyone who wants to run into a cute little kid.
Where: District 3 Exploration Prompt: Near the entry to District 3 and then the district itself, Shopping Trip Prompts: in/around Room 2-17 Building 1 and a clothing store in District 3, and Blackout Prompt: in front of Building 1.
When: District 3 Exploration Prompt: around July 2, Shopping Trip Prompts: around July 7th, Blackout Prompt: July 10th
Format: Any
Summary: During the Reignition event, Diarmuid and Legolas talked about getting a group together to go and explore the 3rd District. Now that a few days have passed and everything seems to be working in the district it's time for anyone who he might have invited to come and go exploring! A few days later, Diarmuid decides he is going to show everyone how much of a brave knight he is and go shopping in the district all by himself. Only...that's a long trip for a small boy to make all alone. Maybe someone would care to join him? Finally, the little guy does some star-gazing late during the blackout on July 10th.
Warnings: Cuteness? Random acts of hugging?
OOC Note: Anyone who would like to come join in the exploration is welcome to! This includes anyone who might wander into the group as it is assembling in front of the district. Consider it a bit of a mini mingle prompt. I will set up a separate division on the log so we can keep everything from that prompt together.
Divisions up! Please post responses to the exploration prompt under one of the two headings. All other prompt responses can be made just as new comments. Thanks everyone!
In Front of District 3/District 3
Diarmuid skips happily toward the bridge that leads into the section of District 3 that holds all the shops. It seems like it has taken him forever to get here because the last time he'd come, he'd come with his friend and keeping the other boy focused had distracted him from the length of the trip. Now, he is by himself and his excitement about meeting with everyone to go explore is just making the trip seem like it's taking forever.
Maybe he should have found Legolas or someone else to make the trip with...
The boy shrugs, swinging his arms happily and giggling as the bridge finally comes into sight. He can't wait to go exploring with everyone! Last time he had gone exploring he had found out what candy was. Just think of all the other new stuff that is probably just waiting to be discovered!

Room 2-17, Building 1
Even though he has been told that the room is his and no one will come into it without him, the first thing that Diarmuid does when he gets up every morning is fold his blanket and cloak and leave them on the corner of the bed with his few other belongings so that they are out of the way. Since there really hasn't been any need to use his cloak for its intended purpose, the boy has been using it and his blanket to curl up in when he sleeps since they still smell like home even if that smell is rapidly fading.
Considering the fact that a small boy lives in this room, it is remarkably neat. Part of that is because he doesn't often stay here. In fact, a lot of the time he stays with the adults who have been watching out for him though sometimes they stay here and help him clean up. However, the main reason things are so neat is that he still doesn't know what everything in the room is or does and that keeps him from messing with things. Why fiddle with things when he doesn't know what will happen? Besides, everything has been given to him by the people who brought him here. It would be bad if he broke anything.
The dark-haired boy finishes tidying up his stuff and then double checks to make sure he has his key and money card with him. Usually he goes out with an adult, but after exploring the 3rd District a few days ago with everyone the boy feels brave enough to go on a shopping trip all by himself. He's a knight after all and knights take care of themselves. He is going to get some new clothes since the ones he arrived in are starting to wear thin and a pouch to keep his key and money card in so he doesn't lose one.
He's probably lucky he hasn't done that already.
"I think that is everything! Shall we go?" Diarmuid turns his head toward the small blue and green butterfly that is perched on a nearby chair. It might be odd that he talks to it since it can't talk back, but the butterfly is like a friend to him. His father made it and ever since then, the butterfly has always been with him. Even now when everything else has been taken away from him, the butterfly is still there and so his father is also still with him in some little way
While Diarmuid doesn't know it, his father magically made the butterfly out of a small part of his love for his son and a greater part of said boy's innocence. As a result, Diarmuid's father is always with him in a much more literally way than he can even imagine.
As if to answer yes to the question, the butterfly launches into the air and lands on his shoulder. The small boy giggles and then starts toward the door to his room. He pauses as he reaches it, though, remembering how every time he has opened it he has seen something new, weird, or scary out there. It's why when he goes places he usually waits until Legolas or Auron or someone else can go with him.
Still, if he doesn't open the door, he can't finish his task, so after a moment and a deep breath, he pulls the door open and heads out into the hallway. If he knew how to write, he would leave a note on his door in case someone comes looking for him, but since he can't all he can do is hope no one worries too much about him while he is off on his adventure.
A Clothing Shop in District Three
Diarmuid finally reaches his destination late in the afternoon, though now that he is at the clothing store all he can do is stand there and look around in awe. There are so many pretty things, but none of it is anything like what he is used to wearing. Where does he start looking? And what can he get with the money that is on his card? He only barely understands how paying with money works and has no idea how much anything is worth.
However just getting here has been a big adventure for him and he's starting to get tired. Not to mention he's hungry, but he has no idea where to get food in this area. Suddenly, all of his energy seems to fade away and Diarmuid finds himself leaning against a nearby wall for a moment before sliding down to sit against it. He's come so far, but now he's starting to reach his limit and he still needs to go back home. What does he do now?
He shouldn't take a nap in the middle of an adventure but suddenly the idea is very tempting...
Building 1, Late During the Blackout on July 10th
Children are generally afraid of the dark. Children who grow up used to the light that is. But while Diarmuid has been taught to be wary of dark places because of the Fae creatures and spirits that might be lurking in them, he has no fear of the dark.
The fact that electicity doesn't exist in his time and that having so much light on at night is new to him might also have something to do with that.
Since he has no fear of the dark, Diarmuid is sitting off to the side of Building 1 and watching the stars. They are usually really hard to see with the lights on, but with them off he can see them so much better. Even if they aren't the stars he's used to seeing, they still reminds him of home.
And that is comforting.

[Diarmuid throws his arm over his eyes sobbing over-dramatically. After a moment, his 'sobs' turn into giggles and he leaps at his friend, growling.]
Roar! I am a were-puppy! I'm going to get you!
no subject
Were-puppy fight! Were-puppy fight!
[He reaches to tickle Diarmuid.]
no subject
[Diarmuid giggles and shies away from Cu Chuliann.]
Not tickles! Anything but that!
no subject
Because I'm a magical were-puppy! I know things!
no subject
[Diarmuid puts his arms out in front of him.]
Teach me! Teach me to be a magical were-puppy too!
no subject
[And he does his best to bark.]
Woof-woof-woof!
no subject
Wo-woof!
[He's not a very impressive barker...]
no subject
[Cu Chulainn's barks sound better.]
no subject
[He's trying. He really is, but the noises Diarmuid is making sound more like squeaks than actual barks--something that causes the boy to pout.]
I don't bark very well... Maybe because my father calls me a bird and a bird isn't a puppy. Birds sing. They don't bark.
no subject
[He's certainly curious.]
You can be a singing were-puppy. And you can howl at the moon.
no subject
[He shakes his head.]
I don't know if I can howl. Howling isn't much like what a bird does. Do you want to hear me sing like a bird so you know what I mean?
no subject
no subject
[Diarmuid pauses a moment and gives the other boy a curious look.]
Is there such a thing as a were-bird?
actual Celtic mythology trivia time!
Today in Celtic Myth: When Were-Crows Attack! X.x
Well then, I can't be a were-bird. I would never be scared of battle! I am only a little knight, but I am a brave little knight! Knights aren't scared of anything.
no subject
no subject
I can be a magical were-songbird instead of a were-battle crow! And I will do all those things you said! I will give them courage and strength and good luck!
no subject
[
Yeah right]no subject
Two out of three isn't too bad...]Okay! I will sing for you!
[He stands up so he can face his friend and then breaks out into a very fast paced and happy song about a boy's first great adventure. Every so often he forgets the words and fills the space with some humming instead.]
no subject
I feel big and brave! Where are the monsters that I should slay?
no subject
[He suddenly draws back and looks a little afraid.]
I am a were-songbird. Do you fight were-songbirds, Lord Hero?
no subject
I wouldn't. Not after they've given me so much strength. You can just flutter by my side and watch me fight other things.
no subject
[He looks around them.]
We need to find a monster for you to fight then!
no subject
[A small monster would be easier to fight, but a big one might bring more glory.]
no subject
[Diarmuid continues to look around for a monster.]
That way you can get warmed up so that when you fight the big one it will die faster!
[Why kill one or the other when they can kill both?]
