Lights Out

Everything being powered by electricity wasn't something she was accustomed with, so she wasn't sure how it could all go out at once so suddenly. Not to mention the lack of alternative lighting...

She was curious, however, at Steve's mention of blackouts. Perhaps this wasn't uncommon with the power that they had, as inconvenient as it seemed. "Do you know how long these typically last?"
no subject
"Not too long, a few hours at most? But this city does seem to have problems with energy, so might be longer here."
no subject
Shaking her head at herself, she focused on Steve's remark about the blackout. "It seems as if it's been a few hours already," she said. "I suppose we'll just have to see when it comes back." Either that, or wait for the people in charge to come tell them how long it was expected to last. She didn't know if that was common practice or not, but judging by Steve's comments, it didn't seem as if it was.

But in the mean time... "If you don't me asking, what are those cards, Miss Freya? I haven't seen 'em before."

Even if she did think she'd get something from home, she didn't imagine it would be a pack of trading cards. Maybe something like a weapon or a trinket from home--something she actually owned before--but... she would take what she could get, she supposed.

Steve continued to look at the cards for a moment, wondering how this game was played. He didn't quite understand how this worked at all. "Do all these monsters exist in your world?" It seemed like a dumb question, but they could exist in other worlds. It all looked possible now.
no subject
"They do. Although a few of them are not monsters," she said, taking a card with a crested yellow bird and offering it to Steve. "This one is a bird we sometimes use for transportation, called a chocobo."
no subject
"Transportation?" He looked at the yellow bird on the card. Steve has heard of people riding ostriches, but it was really rare. Although people just used cars more in general anyway. "Is it difficult to ride a chocobo?"

"Traveling by air is really common in your world?" Steve sounded a little amazed by the thought. Of course there's airplanes in his time, but only the really rich could afford something like that. Or if you were in the war, but that wasn't really fun to begin with. "Have you done so as well?"

"How was it? Traveling through the air? Sounds like it's something someone wouldn't forget." Steve looked curious, it was always something that he wanted to know. It definitely sounded like an experience.

"It was..." Freya took a moment to search for the right words. "... certainly remarkable. I'm familiar with the feeling of having nothing under my feet, but it was different than that, being carried in the air. The view was one to behold, even with the Mist."
no subject
"The Mist? Is it really misty on your planet?"
no subject
"On the continent I live on, yes. The Mist covers much of the land, including my home, but many kingdoms have built above it, on the mountains. Because it spawns monsters, it makes travel very dangerous."
no subject
He looked surprised at the information she was giving him. "Monsters spawn from it? Sure doesn't sound like any normal mist..." Sounded like something from one of those horror stories. Like Dracula appearing from a misty area, except he wasn't created from it.
no subject
"Oh, yes. The Mist is a magic substance," she explained. "We aren't certain from where it originates, but we use it to power our airships. At least it has done us some good."
no subject
"The Mist is really something... guess there's no way to get rid of it either?" Even if did power airships, it still created monsters that put people in danger.
no subject
"Not that we're aware of. I'm sure there have been those that tried, but it's so pervasive, I wouldn't know where anyone could start." The Mist was just a fact of life to her, and she'd heard that a substance similar to it was the cause of the mess here... and they weren't trying to get rid of it either. Like the kingdoms of her world, Saeng Seong appeared as if it was trying to simply keep its citizens safe.
no subject
"Guess for now, all you can do is adapt to it. For now, at least. Try and protect others and keep the danger down." He wished he could do more about it though.
no subject
But Freya let out a quiet chuckle at the way Steve worded his last statement. "The Mist has been around for centuries, at least," she said. "I'm certain we will be fine with the precautions we have in place, as far as that is concerned."
no subject
"Oh, you guys are already used to it, huh?" He smiled a little, well it was good that they at least tried to make the best of things. The creation of those airships sounded really neat. "Do any of these cards have monsters that spawn from the Mist?" He looked over at the different drawings, some ranging from not too bad to really uh, threatening.
